Author’s POV

The heavy iron gates of the Mehrotra mansion clanked shut with finality. The sound reverberated through the courtyard, and up into the high, ornate ceilings of the hall — a metallic declaration that, the world outside had been walled off for the time being.

The staff, though hesitant, obeyed without question. Their footsteps retreated like shadows into the background.

No one dared to defy Anaisha Mehrotra, not even her father's most loyal employees.

As soon as Kriya saw the doors closed, she turned sharply, and said in a loud voice, "What the hell is this??" Her words split the air like glass.

Anaisha took a step forward, heels clicking with authority, her eyes fixed only on Adhrit, as she said with sheer dominance in her voice, "You're not going anywhere, Adhrit. This is your home now. And whether you like it or not, you belong here. With me."

The words were simple, but they landed like a verdict. She did not only claim the space — she claimed him.

Adhrit soon gained his composure back, and let out a cold laugh, as replied to her, "You married me at gunpoint, Anaisha. This isn't a home — it’s a cage for me...."

"You're right..." she whispered, walking closer, until they were face-to-face, her voice now lower, more intimate, but more dangerous at the same time, "It is a cage... The cage, you can never escape from, because you belong to me.... I don't care, what I have to do, in order to keep you here, but I can cross every limit for it.... You are getting my point, or aren't you, my Love??"

The closeness was calculated — too close for comfort for anyone watching. Her breath fanned over his face, and the small smile at the corner of her mouth read like a promise, that had been sharpened into a weapon.

Adhrit clearly understood the hidden threat in her words, which she was giving him about his family's well being. It was an unspoken ultimatum for him. The memory of what had happened earlier crossed his mind, and his eyes instantly hardened.

Kriya tried to pull Adhrit away, but he took a deep sigh, and gently removing her hand from his, said softly, "You should go now Di...."

He knew, if he wouldn't back off now, then Anaisha wouldn't think twice before hurting Kriya, so he did, what was right for now.

His hand lingered on Kriya's for a moment with affection, then he released her hand.

Kriya tried to speak, "But -"

"I'll handle this.... Don't worry, and trust me....!!" he said, stopping her sentence in midway, still not breaking the eye contact with Anaisha.

Even though, he said this to Kriya, his eyes were still not ready to move away from Anaisha's eyes. Both of them were constantly staring at each other with different emotions.

Kriya, reluctantly, turned to leave, glaring at the Mehrotras one last time, before exiting — her eyes held rage, disdain, and frustration.

The gates opened just enough to let her out, and slammed again behind her.

As soon as Kriya left from there, the other members of the family also went into the dining area one by one, as it was already being late for breakfast.

Now, it was just Adhrit and Anaisha present there. The air between them sizzled, not with romance, but with a war of dominance. Both of their eyes boring into each other. It was like the pause before the storm finally knocks on the door.

Anaisha slowly circled him, like a lioness sizing up her prey. Her gait was controlled, fluid. The silence seemed to bend around the two of them, as if time itself had paused, unwilling to intrude on the unspoken tension stretching between their hearts.
