Anaisha’s POV
I was at home, chilling around, when my friend Swati called me. I answered the call and she said 'hello' from the other side, I too replied to her with a 'hi'.
"It's been a long time, yaar. Where have you been busy all this time? Come, let’s go somewhere, and enjoy ourselves!" she said enthusiastically from the other side of the call.
"It's not like that, yaar. I’m not busy anywhere. I’ll come," I replied to her with a smile, even though, I was indeed busy… busy in Adhrit all the time. His face, his voice, his rejection — they circled in my head like a song stuck on repeat.
Cutting the call, I hurriedly got ready in a knee-length dress, and did my makeup carefully. A little gloss, a little blush — though honestly, nothing felt enough, because every time I looked at myself in the mirror, I wondered, if he would like it.
After completing everything, I picked up my car keys and went away.
I reached the restaurant, went inside, and spotted Swati sitting there. She noticed me and waved at me. I walked towards her and settled myself.
"Why didn't you book the private room?", I asked with displeasure.
"Ahh.. that... I am sorry. They said that, there is some problem in the VIP floor currently, so it is closed for few days. I was already here, so I thought, we could manage today. Sorry again.", she replied apologetically, to which, I just nodded.
We chatted and gossiped like old times. She told me about her new boyfriend and how she was head over heels for him.
I laughed at her antics, but deep down, my mind wasn’t there. While she spoke about her love story, my own heart whispered one name over and over — Adhrit.
We were just catching up, when suddenly, out of nowhere, an old man came and tripped. To avoid falling, he grabbed our table.
He messed up everything — our food, and the glass full of water spilled on me. I gasped, looking at the mess on my dress. My anger flared instantly, boiling in my chest. How dare he? He spoiled my new dress.
I stood up with rage. "How dare you, idiot?? Can’t you see? You spoiled my dress and our food??" I shouted furiously — my breaths uneven.
That man flinched at my tone, and replied slowly, "I am sorry beta, I tripped. I would have fallen, if I didn’t hold on to the table."
Beta? Seriously?? First spoil everything and then form unnecessarily relationships to cover it. Good, very good.
"Hey you, I am not your beta, got it? I don’t even take people like you as my servants. Even my servants have better class than you. Don’t try to make unnecessary relationships with me to hide your stupidity."
"And if you had fallen, then it would've been okay. This dress is much more expensive than all the bones present in your body. Got it?" I shouted the last part so loudly, that he flinched in fear.
"You useless man, first you spoiled our day, then my mood, food, and my dress as well. You know, even if you sell yourself, you won’t be able to pay for it. Forget it, who will even buy a worthless man like you." I said with disgust, curling my lip.
I picked up the jug filled with water and threw it straight at his face. He gasped, now drenched totally in water.
His frail shoulders shook, and tears brimmed in his eyes, as he stood there with his head down. The entire restaurant had gone silent, and people were staring. Still, I was satisfied. He spoiled my dress, and I spoiled his dignity… equal.
I was just going to say something else, when a voice boomed in the silence, "ENOUGH."
The voice was familiar, but it couldn’t be true… or could it be? I looked in the direction, from where that voice came, and froze to spot Adhrit there.
