Author's POV

For a long, drawn-out moment, there was nothing, but stunned, absolute silence in the hall.

Adhrit had forgiven Jeet Mehrotra. The very boy, who once threw dramatic tantrums, if someone merely touched his pen without permission — had just publicly forgiven the man, whose family had once completely shattered his self-respect.

Everyone blinked collectively, unsure if they had truly registered the words they had just heard.

Mamta whispered the doubt aloud, her voice filled with disbelief, "Did he really just...?"

Arjun completed her thought, still struggling to process Adhrit's statement, "Forgive Jeet Mehrotra?"

Jeet, for once in his life, was entirely speechless — his gaze fixed, unblinking, on Adhrit.

Anaisha's lips slowly curved into a soft, appreciative smile, as she looked at her husband.

This was her Adhrit — not the one who constantly fought, yelled, or argued, but this man, this truly grown version of him, who was now capable of placing love, family, and healing above past grudges.

He was finally starting to heal, choosing to let bygones be bygones.

"I'm still not thanking you," Adhrit reiterated, shifting awkwardly in his seat to manage the sudden attention. "So please, don't expect any emotional drama, okay?"

Jeet chuckled softly under his breath, a sound that reached the entire room. "Duly noted. I'll frame this ‘forgiveness’ instead... Little brother-in-law."

By the end, his tone had become openly teasing, and it successfully had the desired impact — Adhrit looked immediately and thoroughly irritated.

Kriya, who was still leaning lightly against Adhrit, finally produced a genuine smile. It was faint, weary, but unmistakably real.

The thick tension, that had suffocated the room lifted a measurable amount.

Namish cleared his throat, directing the conversation back to the immediate crisis. "But... what about Harsh? Where is he now? He must be severely punished for what he did. We cannot simply leave him be."

Arjun instantly supported his father. "Yes, Papa is right. If we don't take decisive action against him right now, Kriya will definitely face problems in the future."

Hearing this, Gayatri and Mamta immediately grew visibly anxious, their expressions clouding with worry.

Ruchi quickly reached out and held Mamta's hand to provide comfort, while Adhrit, without a word, wrapped his arm tighter around Gayatri.

But a mother's heart is hard to quiet. Mamta's worries did not reduce. "What if he manages to twist the whole story in front of the police? Our daughter will be publicly defamed. She has already endured so much — what if something even worse happens now? What if he—"

Hearing the fear in her voice, Adhrit became instantly furious, and sharply interrupted Mamta. "How will he possibly do anything like that? I will break his hands and legs along with his mouth! How dare he even think about doing something like that to my sister?"

No one was surprised by his aggressive reaction — Adhrit had always been intensely protective of Kriya.

Even years ago, he hadn't wanted Kriya to marry Harsh — though the reason had been childish — Adhrit simply wanted a son-in-law, who would agree to live in their house permanently, so that his sister would never have to move away.

Before the panic could escalate further, Jeet calmly raised one hand, a simple gesture, that brought instant quiet to the group.

"Uncle, Aunty, Dadi... Please don't worry," he said gently, his voice firm and reassuring. "I had Harsh arrested last night itself. He's in jail right now, already bearing the punishment for his actions, and believe me, he won't be getting bail, no matter what legal trick he attempts."
