Author’s POV
Adhrit was sitting quietly in his room, his body slouched against the back of the chair, fingers loosely interlocked on his lap, as his eyes stared blankly at the wall in front of him.
His mind was in turmoil, replaying the scenes from yesterday’s engagement ceremony again and again, as though, stuck in an endless loop.
He couldn’t comprehend, what had happened, nor could he process, how Anaisha had behaved. Her actions had left a permanent mark on his already burdened heart.
He had never imagined that, someone could behave like that, so recklessly, so possessively, as though, the world around her did not exist.
To him, she had looked less like a bride-to-be, and more like a woman, who had lost herself in a frenzy of obsession. Like a psycho, his mind whispered mercilessly, though his lips never dared to utter the word aloud.
The poor boy didn’t know, what to feel at that moment — should he be relieved that, Anaisha had openly taken his side in front of everyone, even against her own family, or should he be terrified that, if she could turn against her blood so fiercely, what might she be capable of doing to him, if he ever went against her?
Tonight was his sangeet ceremony, a night, that was supposed to be filled with music, dance, laughter, and happiness. But happiness was nowhere to be found on his face.
His expressions were dull, his eyes were lifeless, and every inch of him seemed deprived of joy. His features bore the weight of helplessness, his silence echoing louder than words ever could.
Meanwhile, in another room of the city, Namish sat heavily on the edge of his bed, his face pale and clouded with tension. His shoulders sagged under the invisible burden of fatherly fear, and helplessness.
The incident of yesterday had reached his ears — not through Mamta, not through Adhrit, but through Kriya.
Kriya had not wanted to reveal anything at first, her lips tightly sealed, but the fire of anger in her eyes had betrayed her heart.
Namish had grown suspicious instantly, and his fatherly instinct refused to let the matter rest. He pressed her for the truth, and when persuasion didn’t work, he made her swear to him, forcing her to finally confess everything.
The truth hit Namish like a storm. His heartbeat had grown erratic, his fists clenching and unclenching, as though searching for control. Mamta sat beside him now, trying her best to console him, though her own face revealed that she, too, was far from peace.
Namish finally broke the silence, his voice low, but shaking with suppressed rage and despair. "That’s the reason, I didn’t want Adhrit to marry that girl. Look at the situation already — he hasn’t even married her yet, and our son is trapped in chaos. If this is what happens before the wedding, I don’t even want to imagine, what his life will become after marriage."
Mamta’s hands trembled slightly, as she reached out, her tone careful, almost pleading, "Please calm down, Namish. Didn’t I tell you? She argued with her family for our son. Maybe… maybe she actually loves him."
Mamta herself had been horrified by Anaisha’s behavior yesterday. The sheer recklessness in her voice, the sharpness of her words, the madness blazing in her eyes — none of it had looked like love to her.
Yet, in this moment, she had no choice, but to act as the anchor to her husband’s rising storm. She had to soothe him, even if her own heart was restless.
But Namish was far from soothed. His brows knitted together, his jaw tightening as his frustration spilled over.
"Love him?" His tone was sharp, almost bitter. "Are you even in your senses, Mamta? Who in this world behaves like that with someone, they claim to love? That wasn’t love — it was obsession. A stubbornness, she cannot let go of. Anaisha is nothing, but a spoiled rich girl, who wants to fulfill her desires at any cost. When she’s done with this obsession, she’ll discard Adhrit, as though he’s nothing. She’s not loving him, she’s using him, and I cannot — I will not — let her ruin my son’s life."
