Author’s POV

The Mishra family was enjoying their family time in the living room, chatting, laughing, and teasing each other, when suddenly the doorbell rang.

Adhrit groaned dramatically, slumping back on the sofa, like the world had placed all its burdens on him. "Koi aur nahi jaa sakta kya? Hamesha mujhe hi…", he muttered under his breath, dragging his feet unwillingly toward the door.

(Can't anyone else go? Why always me?)

The moment he opened it, his eyes widened and an involuntary shout escaped his lips. "YOU?"

His voice was so loud, that the entire family’s attention shifted instantly toward him. They turned their heads, puzzled, and then collectively gasped in surprise, at the sight of the person on the doorstep.

Before Adhrit could react further, the person on the door — grinning like a devil—slapped him lightly on the cheek in a mock attack, and rushed inside with the speed of a storm.

"Arre aap—!", Adhrit huffed in anger and dashed after her. "YOUUU…!", His frustrated growl echoed through the house.

What followed was pure chaos. The two of them ran across the hall, as if tomorrow didn’t exist, one chasing, the other escaping, both laughing and shouting like sworn enemies. It was Tom and Jerry reborn under the Mishra roof.

Just when Adhrit lunged forward, ready to grab her ponytail, Gayatri’s firm, yet affectionate voice stopped them.

"You here, beta?"

The girl froze mid-run, then turned with an innocent smile, her eyes sparkling. "Yes, Dadi! What did you guys think — that if you don’t invite me, I won’t come? Haan? You don’t even consider me family anymore, is it?", she said dramatically, placing a hand on her chest, as though her heart had broken into pieces.

Adhrit rolled his eyes, and muttered with a grin, "Yeah, that’s exactly what I said earlier — that they must’ve picked you up from a dustbin."

The girl gasped, scandalized. "You—!", She lunged toward him, and the chase resumed instantly.

"Bas! Enough!", Namish’s deep voice boomed through the hall. He pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. "Adhrit, Kriya — you two are just like cat and dog! She just arrived home, Adhrit, and you won’t even let her rest for a while!"

The girl — Kriya — stuck out her tongue at Adhrit, and laughed mischievously. "See? Papa is calling you a dog."

"Papa!", Adhrit whined like a five-year-old, stomping his foot for extra effect. "Why do you never scold her? She’s the one, who started it all!"

This girl was none other than Kriya Mishra — Adhrit’s elder sister. She was studying medicine in another city, living in a rental room, and returned to her home occasionally, during festivals or when her schedule allowed.

She was doing her post graduation in obstetrics and gynaecology, from AIIMS Bhopal, and her schedule used to be very busy, because of which she got very less time to meet her family.

"No, beta.", Namish said with weary patience. "It's nothing like that. Just let it be for now. She just came home — let her rest for a while. Later, you two can fight all you want."

His tone carried the finality of a man, who had had enough of their sibling wars. The look in his eyes clearly said: I am done with you two.

The message was received. Both siblings exchanged a glare, but stayed quiet.

Kriya then moved toward the family members, hugging each one warmly. After such a long time, the reunion was filled with love and laughter. Finally, she turned back to her brother.
