Clark stepped out of the cool, air-conditioned lobby of the Daily Planet and into the mid-summer heat. He immediately started to sweat, as the summer sun shone down on him. He looked around briefly before Making his way into an alleyway nearby. He used his super-speed to change into his hero suit and flew out of the alleyway and towards his home, stopping to help a few people along the way.
When he landed, he quickly changed back into his work clothes and made his way up to the house where he knew his mom was waiting for him. He smiled as he entered the house and smelled his mother's cooking. He made his way to the kitchen and smiled wide when he saw his mom.
"Hi, Mom," he said softly so as not to scare her. He walked up to her, giving her a hug and a kiss on the temple before moving away.
"Hey Clark, how was work?" She asked, looking up at him while continuing to stir the pot on the stove. From the looks of it, she was making stew.
"It was good. Perry gave me a huge job. I'm going to interview Bruce Wayne," Clark said excitedly. It was very hard to get an interview with Bruce Wayne; the man was always busy.
"Really? That's amazing. I'm so happy for you," his mom said, equally excited, as she dished out his food.
"I know, I'm supposed to get into his life, see how he operates and what his day is all about," Clark told her.
"I'm sure you'll do good, now go change and come eat," His mom said, pushing him out of the kitchen and towards the stairs.
"Ok, I'm going," Clark laughed, heading up the stairs. He went to his room and changed into his flannel and wife-beater before heading back downstairs. Making his way through the living room, Clark spotted a few pieces of paper on the coffee table. Curious, he walked over and picked them up.
Clark read the papers and couldn't believe what he was seeing: bank statements about money owed on the house and medical bills for his mother. Turning, he made his way to the kitchen, where his mom was seated at the table waiting for him.

When she saw his face, she frowned. Then she saw the papers in his hand. "Oh, Clark..." she started but cut herself off.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, his voice strained.
" I didn't want you to worry. You should be out having fun with your friends and not having to worry about these," She said, taking the paper from him.
"Worrying about these, we're about to lose the house and you're sick. I have the right to worry," Clark snapped, then sighed.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked, sitting down at the table.
His mom sighed, leaning on the counter, "I have Appendicitis," She told him, Clark got up and moved to stand beside her.
"Well, get through this. I'll help in any way I can," he said. His mom nodded and moved to the table.
"Let's eat before the food gets cold, then you go rest. You have a big day tomorrow," she told him. The rest of the night was spent in relative silence. They watched the news together before Clark made his way up to his room and settled into bed.
