It was a week before Christmas and the smell of pine and hot chocolate filled the air, along with the sharp bite of the cold. The city was filled with joy and nostalgia, and the sound of 'Here Comes Santa Claus' filled the air at every corner.

The sound of laughter filled the air, children ran up and down the streets, people were window shopping, couples walking down the street laughing and happy, people talking loudly, a Santa ringing a bell on every corner, and everyone was happy for the season.

Then, there was Bruce.

As a child, Bruce loved Christmas. He enjoyed doing simple things like putting up a tree and decorating his home, but now not so much. He just wanted to be Left alone. Alfredo had tried for the first few years after his parents had died, but he found out quickly that Bruce was no longer into the festive spirit, and this year was no different.

Bruce was in the Justice League Tower security room, avoiding everyone and their cheery moods. He watched the screen as the team sat in the conference room, pulling names out of a hat for their secret Santa. He had never joined them, just watched from a distance as his teammates exchanged gifts the day before they all went home to spend time with their families.

Clark sat in the conference room with the rest of the team. He wasn't surprised to see Bruce was not there. They were about to exchange Secret Santa, and Bruce hated it. Diana passed around a red Santa hat to everyone, but it was empty before it got to Clark.

"Did someone not put their name in the bag?" Green Lantern asked, a frown on his face.

"I didn't, I'm not participating this year," Clark said, and the team turned to look at him in shock. They all knew Clark was always looking forward to Secret Santa every year.

"Why not? Is it money? I can teach you some," Aquaman stated, ready to help as always.

"No, I have money," Clark said, shaking his head. "This year I want to give Batman a gift," He told them.

They looked at him for a moment before laughing.

"You're going to give Batman a gift? Are you nuts?" Flash asked after he'd calmed down a little. This got Clark upset. Why were they laughing at him?

"Yes, I am, and I don't see what's so funny about it," he snapped, causing all of them to stop laughing at once. They all knew not to make him mad at this point.

"Superman, you must understand. Batman is not one for Christmas. He's never joined in anything we do, he just locked himself in the security room for hours. He will probably burn your gift," Diana said.

"I know he's not a Christmas person, but have any of you ever tried to understand from his perspective? Maybe he doesn't like Christmas because something bad happened to him at Christmas, maybe he has no one to spend it with. Maybe if you guys had tried to include him in everything we did he would eventually come around to at least slightly like the holiday. Instead of thinking of yourself and your own happiness, maybe you should try to make someone else happy, especially Batman. He does a lot for this team," Clark lectured, making the others hang their heads.

Shaking his head at them, Clark stood from his seat and exited the room, heading towards the security room. When he got there, he knocked. A moment later, the door opened, and there sat the Caped Crusader, typing away at the big monitor.

"Hey, Bats," Clark said, walking over and sitting on the chair next to him.

"What do you need?" Batman asked, not looking away from the screen.

"I was wondering if maybe I could spend Christmas with you this year?" Clark asked tentatively.

Bruce paused what he was doing and looked at the bright-eyed man beside him. "Why?" He asked suspiciously.

"Well, ever since my mom died earlier this year it's been lonely in the house all by myself, and it's even lonelier now that it's Christmas. So I thought, why not spend it with you," Clark replied, looking right into his eyes.

Bruce knew he couldn't say no to him if it was any other member of the team, but not Superman, and he couldn't figure out why. "You do realize we would have to have identities, right?" Bruce asked, Turning his attention back to the screen.

"Yes, I do. I don't mind sharing mine with you," Clark said, and Bruce could hear the hope building in his voice.

Sighing, he pulled out a pen and paper from the nearby drawer and wrote down his address. "You can come over after lunch tomorrow. Pack for how long you plan to stay," he said, handing the paper to Superman. This earned him a happy squeal and a "Yay" before Superman practically ran out of the room. Bruce looked at the door for a moment before smiling to himself and going back to work.
