Pain.

Darkness.

Sadness.

Those were the only things that registered in Bruce's mind at the moment. He groaned and opened his eyes, looking around to see that he was in his bedroom at the manor. Frowning, he attempted to sit up, but he couldn't. His body was numb, and he couldn't feel his legs.

Just then, the door opened, and Alfred walked in. At first, he didn't seem to notice that Bruce was awake and went about opening the blinds before turning to him. Alfred gasped and quickly made his way over. "Master Bruce, thank god you're finally awake," he exclaimed, pulling Bruce into a tender hug.

"Wh...what happened?" Bruce asked; his voice sounded hoarse, and his throat hurt from talking.

Alfred reached over and took a glass of water from the bedside table before holding it to Bruce's lips who drank without complaint. "You have been in a coma, Master Bruce," Alfred informed him and his eyes widened in Panic.

"A coma? For how long?" he asked, trying to stand up, and with help, succeeded.

"Two months, sir. I have been taking care of your work in the industry, so as to not raise suspicion that you and Batman have been gone at the same time, but the league has been trying to contact you endlessly," Alfred told him, and Bruce had to take deep breaths, trying to not give himself a panic attack. Two months? He had been in a coma for two months, he couldn't imagine what it must have been like for Alfred during this time.

"Alfred?" Bruce called curiously, frowning.

"Yes, Master Bruce," Came the slow response which made Bruce think, the other man knew what he was about to ask and he wouldn't like the answer, but he was going to ask anyway.

"Why can't I feel my legs?" He asked, when he didn't get a response after a while he looked over at the man to see the man looking at him with sad eyes.

"When your jet was attacked, it seems the force of the impact on the wall shattered the bottom of your spine. The doctors were able to fix it with surgery, but they couldn't save your legs, you still have them. But you won't be able to walk," Alfred told him.

Bruce closed his eyes for a few minutes, taking deep breaths, a sob rocked his body as he sat there. "Master Bruce?" Alfred asked.

"I'm fine, Alfred. I guess it could have been much worse, I could have been completely paralyzed," He said, wiping his tears away.

Clark flew from one end of the empty bedroom that belonged to Batman to the next. It has been four months and Bats still hasn't turned up at the tower or made contact with any of them.

The door opened behind him, and he turned to see Wonder Woman standing there. He walked into the room and sat on the bed. "Superman, I think it's time you accepted that he might not be coming back or worse," she said, trying to sound gentle, but that didn't help.

"Don't say that he'll come back. I know he will. And he's not dead either. Something has to be wrong. Batman would never just disappear like that," he snapped at her. It wasn't the first time they had tried to convince him that Batman might be dead or just didn't want to come back.

"Superman, you can't keep hanging on to him; you have to let him go," Wonder Woman said, and Clark growled.

"Don't tell me to let him go. You have no idea what it is like to be in love, and you don't know what it is like to have the person you love disappear without a trace. You act like you have no emotions, so don't come trying to tell me to let him go," Clark said before flying out of the room, then the tower, and back to earth. He didn't stop flying until he came to a hole in the middle of the Arctic.

He flew inside and came to the shop hidden below the ice, he sighed and looked around remembering the time he brought Bruce here.

Clark landed on the ice and looked back excitedly at where Batman was landing his jet. He walked over just as the man did his dramatic Bat exit and smiled at him. "This is where you were so excited to take me? The middle of the frozen desert?" Batman asked, his teeth slightly chattering from the cold.

"No, I took you to that," Clark said, pointing to the hole in the ice.

"You took me to a hole in the ice in the middle of the frozen desert? No offense, but there are much nicer holes I can think of seeing and going into," Batman said. Clark blushed bright red, and Bruce eyed him before he realized what he said.

"That's not what I meant." He exclaimed, but he was blushing now too. Clark chuckled and grabbed Batman's hand leading him across the ice and into the hole. When they came to the ship Batman looked around wide-eyed, mouth hanging open.

"What is this? How did you find this?" He asked Clark.

"It is a ship from my planet, it came here long before I did. It has the technology of my people and a lot of other things I haven't even looked into yet," Clark explained as a flying thing came up to him and scanned him.

"Kal son of El, welcome," it said before floating away, and the ship's lights came on.

"Kal?" Batman asked curiously.

"It is the name my birth parents gave me," Clark explained, as the future of his father appeared in front of him.

"Son," His father's hologram said, and Clark nodded.

"I thought your parents were dead?" Batman asked.

"They are, this ship has my father's conscience in its mainframe. When I came here I had the Codex with me, the Codex was how babies were born on my planet. It has the DNA of all my people, I was born naturally though. My father put the Codex in my shuttle and sent me here. When I found this place, I inserted the codex, and it brought my father's conscience to life," Clark explained to him.

They spent hours on the ship exploring everything they could, before leaving.

"Thank you for trusting me enough to show me this part of you," Batman said as they exited the ice.

"Of course, I felt you would appreciate it seeing as you're always trying to stick me under a microscope to learn more about me," Clark said accusingly but smiled to show the other man he was joking.

Batman blushed again and looked away. "I will see you back at the tower, Kal," Batman said, climbing into his jet. Clark watched as he took off before following behind him.
