Nkosikhona's POV
"Nkosikhona come help me with the gardening." says ma and i sigh. Not that I hate gardening but then I know she uses it as a time to interrogate me and ask me the latest about my life and I'm afraid she might ask me about that Zwane saga. "Why can't you ask your daughters in-law." I say. "Ngizokushaya asambe siyoyenza ingadi. Nxx nonsense."
(I'll hit you let's go and do the garden.) Sigh. I get up and wear my shoes and go outside. "Kodwa ma kuyabanda." I say. (But ma it's cold.) "I don't care there are some flowers that flourish in winter and we need to pick those out." she says. "Some mothers." I mutter under my breath. "I know what you are running away from and that gives me more motivation to do this with you."
I roll my eyes. We get to the garden and she takes out the tools from the shed and we start watering them and feeding them with a bit of fertiliser. "How are you?" she asks. "Ngiyaphila wena mama unjani?" I ask. (I'm good and you mama how are you?) "Ke siame." (I'm okay.) "These flowers are beautiful." "I know some have to go to my boutique store so I can gift the buyers after they purchase their stuff."
"That's a nice idea." I say. "Now when were you going to tell me that you beat up Zwane's son." she says. "Straight to the point." I say and she chuckles. "There is no point in beating around because the surface conversation is over." We chuckle. "I wasn't going to tell you because he was not supposed to tell my dad but i guess he was too angry to keep it to himself."
She rolls her eyes. "You can't expect me to have sympathy when I'm in the mafia mama." I say. "I'm not rolling my eyes at that I'm just rolling my eyes because of your sarcasm at the end." she says and i chuckle. "But maybe that's how it happened." "Whatever. Why did you beat him up?" "I was teaching his dad a lesson." "What lesson now?"
"That if he does what he did again I will not only beat his son up but him too." I say. "You know that his our biggest client." she says. "I know that mama but these big clients have big egos and need to be humbled real quick." "What did he do and be honest?" "Don't tell anyone this." "I'm too old to be swearing oaths." "But you swore an oath that led me to marriage."
"That was your dad not me." she says. "Same difference." I say. "Don't look at me and see your dad." "I don't, don't worry." "Mmm now tell me the reason." "He was eyeing up Ona." "As in eyeing like seeing a potential for himself or his business." "I couldn't really tell but then he kept on pestering her and had I not arrived at the time that I did she would have been far more traumatized then she is now."
"Ncoo look at you caring for others." she says and i roll my eyes. "Don't make me look like I'm a selfish person." I say. "Yes you are mtanami. I'm not going to try and sugarcoat it for you. I didn't think you would help her during that time." (my child.) "I didn't feel comfortable seeing a man thrice her age looking at her as if they saw a fuck buddy or perfect customer."
"Should I tell your dad this?" she asks. "When I say no one ma that includes him." I answer. "But he needs to know that you were doing it for the right reasons this time around you weren't just having an itch that needed to be scratched." "Do you honestly think your husband will believe me?" "I don't know." "He won't so it remains between the two of us."
