Onalerona's POV
"Mosimane yo o montle yo o mo tlisitseng gompieno ke mang?" asks mmèmogolo and i roll my eyes. Thank goodness Sandile doesn't understand setswana. (Who is this handsome boy you've brought today?) "Mosamarea yo o molemo yo o neng a dira tshwetso ya go re isa kwa mabenkeleng." I answer. (A good Samaritan that decided to give us a lift from the shops.)
"A o tlhaloganya setswana kgotsa a ke tshwanetse go bua seesimane." she asks. (Does he understand tswana or must i speak in English?) "Do you understand tswana?" I ask. I have to make sure he doesn't, i might think he doesn't understand kanti he heard everything. "No I don't." he says. "Thank you for giving Ona and Masego a lift."
"No problem gogo I was just helping a good friend and those plastics looked too heavy for her to carry on her own." he says and mmèmogolo is so smitten by him. "You such a good man." she says and i fight the urge to roll my eyes. "Thank you for the lift let me walk you out." I say. "Don't be quick to kick him out let him eat dinner with us."
"Ungavumi." I mumble. (Don't agree.) At least my grandmother doesn't understand Isizulu. "Unfortunately gogo i can't stay I have to get going." he says and i sigh a sigh of relief. "Okay maybe next time ngwanake. Once again thank you." she says and he smiles. (my child.) Masego comes and takes the remaining plastics and walks away.
"Mma ke mo ise kwa ntle. Ke tla boa ka bonako." I say and she nods. (Let me walk him out I'll be back.) He bids his farewell to my grandmother and we walk out. I don't know what my grandmother is thinking inviting Sandile over for dinner. We get to his car and stand by the bonnet. "Thank you I really appreciate it." I say and he nods.
"Like I said I was helping out a friend." he says. "Very nice of you. You have a beautiful car by the way." I say and he smiles. "Thank you." "I'm sure you proud of yourself for buying this car." "I am proud of myself.." "Why do I sense a but there?" "There is no but." "Mmm." I stare at the neighbors houses and we stand in silence.
"I heard your sister talking about a phone." he says. "Yeah I'm planning on buying one for her so she can communicate with me easily because my grandmother's phone has it's moments." I say and he chuckles. "Can i give her this one?" He takes out his i-Phone pro max and i shake my head no. "No that's your phone." "I just brought a new one two days ago and i was thinking of selling this one but I guess I don't have to sell it."
"No Sandile I can't accept this gift this is too much." I say. "Please plus you don't have to pay for it. I've finished moving my stuff from here to the other phone." he says. "No I can't take it." "Onalerona please take it." "Why are you being so nice to me?" "Because God wants us to show humility wherever we go and serve other people. In Acts of the Apostles it says it's better to bless others than to receive."
I wipe away the stray tear that escaped my eye. "Thank you." "Take it." he says and we chuckle. I take the phone from him and i switch it on and it's still in a good condition. "Wow I didn't expect this today. Thank you so much." I pull him in for a hug and he wraps his arms around my waist. Masego is going to be so happy that she has an i-Phone. Look at her upgrading before me.
