Onalerona's POV
I've finally arrived at Free State. I still need to take one more taxi that will take me straight to my grandmother's house. I wait for a taxi to come and i see a car stop in front of me and the window rolls down and its Sandile. "Do you need a lift?" asks Sandile. "Yeah." I answer.
I do trust him enough to know that he won't kidnap me. He gets out off the car and takes my suitcases and puts them in the boot. "Thank you." I say and he lets out a little smile. "No problem." He opens the door for me and i thank him and get inside. He closes the door and rushes to his side and gets in.
He brings the ignition to life and drives off. "Unjani?" he asks. (how are you?) "Ke siame mme wena." I answer. (i'm good and you.) "Ngiyaphila. You going to your grandmother's house?" (i'm good.) "Yes i am i was waiting for a taxi that was going to take me there. I didn't expect to see you by the rank."
"I was buying something there and i saw you so i had to give you a lift." he says and i let out a little smile. "Thank you. You spending your Christmas here?" I ask. "Yeah I'm visiting my mom's side of the family they were supposed to come to Joburg but you know how rural people are." I chuckle.
"My grandmother is like that too. Ever since she came back from the city she doesn't want to leave her house whenever i ask her to come visit she's like 'I am comfortable in my own home and why would i go to the city." I say and we chuckle. "But its nice to come emakhaya to get a break from the city." he says and i hum in agreement. (rural.)
"It is and the difference in air is real. Joburg is so polluted that when you come here you feel like the air is much more fresher." I say. "And the hustle and bustle is less here." he says. "But its getting busier now since there is development." he hums. "But i'll always love the serenity of this place."
"Me too and being here brings back childhood memories." I say and he chuckles. "Stealing the mangoes from the neighbours and herding cattle." he says and i chuckle. "You guys used to do the stealing i was more of a peaceful child." he laughs. "I don't believe you Onalerona."
I chuckle. "I'm serious i never had friends here so i would spend the holidays with my grandparents and uncles." I say and he steals a glance at me. "So your naughty side was in Joburg?" he asks and I chuckle. "What naughty side cause i just played the games you guys played." we chuckle.
"You were not coerced to play umama nobaba." he says and i roll my eyes. "I just went along with the flow and i made sure i was the single, rich aunt." I say and we chuckle. "But i wanted you to be the mother." "Because you were the dad?" "Yeah and you weren't annoying as uNhlanhla." I laugh.
"Nhlanhla had a crush on you that's why you found her annoying." I say and he rolls his eyes causing me to chuckle. "She made it too obvious naye." he says and i laugh. "Don't be mean. Where is she vele?" "She's in Durban." "That's nice she's always wanted to go to Durban." he hums. "Have you found a job?"
"Yeah i'm still working there and i am a part time waitress just to make extra cash. I have taken a break from applying for posts i'll try again next year." I answer and he hums. "Don't worry you will find it next year just trust in God." he says and i smile. "I know and i feel it in my bones that next year will be better."
"Would you like anything to eat?" he asks. "No these days I can't stomach a lot of food and I'm very picky." I answer. "Have you gone to the doctor to check it out?" "Yes i have." "What's the issue?" I clear my throat. "Its nothing major but it will get better with time. I just need to eat food that i can stomach."
