Nkosikhona's POV
"Merry Christmas babomncane." says Zenande and i smile and pick her up. "Merry Christmas princess. Unjani?" I ask. (how are you?) She's the first one to wake up and I'm not surprised because she usually gets excited for Christmas and wakes everybody up and since i'm an early bird like her i don't mind.
The others sure do mind though. "Ngiyaphila wena babomncane." she answers. (i'm good and you.) "Nami ngiyaphila princess. You are supposed to be sleeping you know that right." I say and she chuckles. (i'm good too.) "You know i can't sleep till late when its Christmas." "I know. I hope you didn't wake anyone else up otherwise its over for you."
She giggles. "No i didn't. I woke you up first because i know you wake up early like me." she says and i chuckle. "Let's go and make breakfast then for everyone." I say and she squeals. We go downstairs to the kitchen and i take out the things i need to make pancakes. I'm sure my family will be surprised that i cooked for them.
"Did you brush your teeth?" I ask and she nods. "I wish mommy was here with all of us." she says and i sigh. I can imagine how they feel, this is their first Christmas without her and they need to get used to the fact that there will be many more Christmases without her. I would feel like shit if my mom was to leave me so soon. "I know but she is watching over us in heaven."
"I'm sure aunty Ona also misses her mom. She did say that she doesn't have a mother like me." she says. "She does miss her mom everyday." I mumble. "Can i mix the batter?" Its funny how she can move from one topic to the next in an instant. "Yeah but don't make a mess." Zobuhle comes and she chuckles when she sees me.
"I can't believe my eyes. My own brother is making breakfast for all of us." says Zobuhle and i roll my eyes. "I can easily exclude you when i plate up continue talking nonsense." I say and she chuckles and raises her hands in surrender. "No need to fight i'm surprised that you making breakfast for all of us." "I just wanted to spoil you for once."
"I am enjoying basking in my brother's love. Whoever the woman is in your life you better keep her around. She reminds me of that time when you were in varsity you were this nice." she says and i chuckle. "Who said there is a she involved?" I ask and she chuckles. "We both know that i'm telling the truth." I hum.
"I'm surprised to see you awake this early." I say. "I just ran out of sleep so i decided to get a glass of water." she says. "Yonkinto iright?" (is everything okay?) "Yeah it is." "Nobody is bothering you." she shakes her head no. "Nobody bothers me and anyways i've grown some thick skin so i know how to handle them." I chuckle.
"That's good to hear and it better stay that way." I say and she nods. "How are you princess?" she asks. "I'm fine and you aunty." answers Zenande. "I'm good. Merry Christmas." "Merry Christmas to you too." She helps us with the breakfast and thankfully the kitchen doesn't burn down.
We set up the dining table and everybody starts appearing one by one. "Okay i ain't smelling smoke so that's a good sign and what happened to you Nkosikhona since when do you spoil us?" asks mom and we chuckle. "Nami ngiyaphila ma thanks for asking." I answer and they laugh. "Hai suka wena."
"Can we all just bask in our brother's love and stop asking him questions." says Zobuhle. "Thank you, no need to complain otherwise me and the kids will finish these pancakes alone." I say and they chuckle. "Thank you for the food it looks good and i can't wait to dig in." says mom. "My pleasure." We sit down and start eating.
