Nkosikhona's POV
I'm not ready to tell her about me being in the mafia. "Nkosikhona talk." says Onalerona and i sigh. "It was a work trip." I say. "What work trip is this?" "I was helping my dad." More like i was dodging bullets and putting my life in danger. "With what Nkosikhona?" "Its complicated."
"Then uncomplicate it for me by explaining everything." she says. Why is it so hard to blurt out the truth just like that? I'm scared that she might leave me because she doesn't want to be with a killer. I was trained to be an assassin and its not something i can ditch just like that. Its one of the ways i can try deal with my anger by going on a mission.
"Nkosikhona you are zoning out." she says. "Huh?" "Why are you avoiding explaining everything to me." I sigh. "This whole thing is complicated and i don't want you to view me in a different light after this." I say. "What do you mean in a different light?"
"When i told you that i don't want to delve deeper in my family history its because we are not as innocent as we look." I answer. "Continue." "We are in the mafia sthandwa sami." (my love.) "Like mafia as in the Italian mafia." I chuckle. "Yes but this is the South African version."
"You kill people." she asks. I know whenever we talk about the mafia the first thought that comes to people's minds is that we are killers which is true but we only kill when necessary. "Only when necessary." I answer. "When is it necessary to take a life?" I sigh. "Many times."
"So you've always been in the mafia?" she asks. "Yes my parents have been there for maybe three decades." I answer and she sighs. "Do you view me in a different light now?" "I don't know. This thing goes against my morals and beliefs." "Don't tell anyone about this Onalerona." she scoffs.
"Is that all you care about Nkosikhona whether i will snitch on you or not." she asks. "Its not all i care about Ona but i need to make sure that you don't go around telling people that i don't abide by the law." I answer and she clicks her tongue. "Does it look like I'll go snitch when i don't have any evidence."
"Ngiyaxolisa sthandwa sami I didn't mean to upset you but please understand where I'm coming from." I say. (I'm sorry my love.) "What else are you hiding from me?" she asks. "That's it sthandwa sami." "If i find out that you have another secret Nkosikhona I am leaving you." "I promise it won't happen."
"Is that why you keep saying that you can protect me from Rea and she's not that dangerous." she asks. "Yes she will never hurt you ngikhona." I answer. (while i'm there.) "Is she also in the mafia?" "Yes." "Thats why she was able to kidnap my siblings without feeling remorse."
"I'm sorry about that." I say. "But you don't look like a criminal." she says and I laugh. "Kanti how is a criminal supposed to look like?" "I don't know maybe they supposed to look scary and have that gangster look. You don't look like you can hurt a fly." I chuckle.
"Not all criminals come in scary faces." I say and she rolls her eyes. "I know now." she says and i chuckle. "So are you going to leave me?" "I don't know." "What do you mean by that?" "I don't know Nkosikhona i will need some space." "How much time do you need?" "I don't know." "Two days?"
"Nkosikhona please don't give me a time frame to deal with everything. This is a lot to process so forgive me for needing time to think about everything." she answers and i sigh. This is my biggest fear. I don't want to lose her and i can't afford to lose her because of this. "Can i go back to my place."
