-66- watch your step

Y/N's POV

"And here we are." Announces Emily as she stops the car in front of the building that I already know from Tara's presentation.

But in real life it looks somehow more threatening.

I nervously put my hands under my thighs and stare at the large brick building, whose high windows look dark and almost threatening.
A few students are standing in front of the large entrance door smoking, otherwise it is pretty empty since the lesson has already started.

"Are you okay, angel?" Emily's voice tears me out of my worries and I turn to her.
With a smile on my lips I try to convince her that I am fine, but her furrowed eyebrows reveal that I am not having any success.

"It's okay to be nervous, baby. This is your first day at school, whether incognito or not, it is exciting and maybe a little overwhelming."
She explains calmly and rests her hand on the back of my neck to gently stroke it.
"Yes, you're right." I admit quietly and look into her dark eyes, trying to concentrate only on the loving expression in them.
"What do I say, why am I suddenly going to this school?" I ask uncertainly and feel the nervousness bubbling up inside me at the thought of meeting completely unknown teenagers.
"Whatever you want and what you feel most comfortable with. You can't say anything wrong."
Emily replies and her gentle touches on my neck slowly calm me down.
"Can I tell them about you?" I ask so quietly that she probably hardly hears it.
I press my lips together, stare at the large building and then turn my gaze back to Emily, who is patiently examining me.

"I mean...if they ask me, can I say that I'm with someone?" I explain my thoughts in more detail and my gaze wanders nervously over her face.
She starts to smile and gently nudges my nose before whispering with a smirk.
"I'm all for making it clear to everyone that you're taken. I don't want to see anyone flirting with my baby."
She pouts playfully, then laughs and winks at me.
I laugh in relief and lean in to kiss her.

As I lean back, I reply with my grin:
"Then I'll tell everyone that I'm all yours, Darling."

She sighs in relief, then kisses me more intensely.

A knock on the car window tears us apart and when I turn around, I see JJ standing next to us with a happy grin.

She's wearing a white blouse and has her hair pinned up and a stack of books under her arm.

I smile at Emily again and she leans forward to place a kiss on my cheek.
"See you at lunchtime, my love. I'm so proud of you!"

With a warm feeling in my stomach, I leave the car and am immediately embraced by JJ.

"Hey, new favorite student."
She greets me and brushes a strand of hair out of my face before looking at my outfit.

"You look cute. The students will love you."
She notices with a wink, then goes to the trunk and gets my crutches.
I take them with a sigh and together we make our way to the main entrance.

The thought of not only being the new one but also the new one with the crutches makes me so nervous that it fills my whole body.

But I try not to show it in front of JJ. She shouldn't worry.

In between we hear Tara and Emily trying out the earpiece and we answer them quietly to make sure that the connection is working.
