TW: this is the last chapter, my lovelies.
(not really a TW, but I wanted to mentally prepare you for the fact that the story is now coming to an end😭🫶)

Y/N's POV
"So, how do I look?" I ask uncertainly as I take the crutch from Penelope and look down nervously.
Penelope brushes back a strand of hair that has fallen into my eyes, then gently cups my face with both hands, an awed expression on her face.
"Ohh... Pumpkin! You look so incredibly beautiful."
I give her a shy smile.
"I'm pretty nervous." I admit quietly and bite my lower lip.
"You don't need to be, sweetheart.
We planned everything so well. Everything is going like clockwork and you look stunning. Everything else will work itself out."
Penelope promises with a wink, she pulls the small velvet box out of her jacket pocket and lets it slide into the silver bag that I have slung over my shoulder.
Then she puts a hand on the small of my back and leads me to the main entrance of the school.
The banister is decorated with dark blue tulle and little blue stars glitter in it.
Penelope hooks her arm in mine and slowly helps me up the stairs, while my knees shake more than usual with every step.
We stop in front of the large double doors, my gaze wanders from the poster announcing the prom to Penelope, who is looking at me with a beaming smile.
"See you afterwards. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you." She whispers conspiratorially and places a kiss on my cheek before holding the door open for me.
"Get your wife." She calls after me cheerfully before the door closes behind me.
I start to giggle as Penelope's statement makes the nervousness bubble up inside me.
I let my hand wander into my pocket, hold the velvet box for a moment, take a deep breath and then let my gaze wander through the hallway.
Everything looks so different.
Countless fairy lights hang on the cupboards and make the otherwise dark hallway look magical.
The smell of sneakers and fear is covered by a light vanilla scent.
On the floor I discover a few arrows made of small petals that lead around a corner.
Strange, flowers weren't part of the motto and not part of my plan for Penelope.
Maybe that was her own creativity, her way of contributing.
I try to calm my nervousness under control and I follow the flower arrows slowly, careful not to step on any of the arrows so that Emily can see them too.
Penelope had promised me that she would let her in 10 minutes after me so that I would have enough time to arrive properly.
The further I get into the school, the more fairy lights decorate the hallway, they hang from the ceiling and together with the blue velvet transform the hallway into a small galaxy.
They light my way like thousands of stars and quiet piano music can be heard in the background.
My heart beats frantically like a hummingbird in my chest and my whole body seems to vibrate with excitement.
The last flower arrow ends in front of the double swinging doors that lead to the auditorium.
I wonder for a moment why I am still the only one who can be seen here.
Penelope really managed to keep her back free a few minutes before the ball started so that Emily and I had a moment to ourselves. Because just the thought of giving my speech with countless teenagers standing around us makes my stomach turn.
But I still didn't think that everyone would stick to it.
