Manjiri looked around the gloomy room, she had been waiting there since two hours. It was her marriage as planned by her family and her to be husband was her paternal aunt's (bua's) son. Manjiri was dressed in red bridal attire, she looked beautiful but only she knew about the tornado of thousands of thoughts and weird feelings that was brewing up inside her. She sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror, the broken mirror in the room of the Mangalkaryalaya (the ceremonial hall). Soon, she'd marry a guy who was nothing but a potato, she'd lead her life in some gloomy house, let herself be vulnerable and dependent on an impoverished and unemployed man with a lot of attitude. She was not like this, she was brave, her dad used to call her his tigress. But now this same tigress was to stay like some meek animal, working at somebody else's house. She wanted to prove her real strength but maybe this is what the destiny wanted.
Manjiri looked at her chuda and then her eyes fell on a coffee cup left by somebody on the shelf. With this she was reminded of certain someone who was a coffee maniac. Oh Saanvi! What could she be doing then? She smiled slightly when she could picture Saanvi on her desk, eyes focused and piercing a book in front of her. That's what most thought that Saanvi would do 28 hours a day. But she was a girl filled with surprises. Maybe she was playing football or listening to her favourite playlist on the Music App.
Then she felt a stinging pain. Why? She didn't know why but it was there. Manjiri had seen Saanvi on the last exam day, the day on which her haldi was planned. She even sent Saanvi an invitation card of her wedding but she doubted if she'd even bother to show up. Then she felt another pain. Again, why?
Finally, it dawned upon her. Manjiri liked Saanvi. Not just the 'platonic friendship love' but something more, something immense. Wait, Manjiri what was that? Manjiri slapped herself mentally and thought, 'Manjiri, this is not right. She's a girl and you too are. You can't possibly like her. What will society say? Moreover, what will Saanvi say? She was just extending a helping hand. Why does that affect you so much?'
But to her surprise, Manjiri did not feel bad about her confession of her liking towards Saanvi to herself rather her heart felt lighter and she could feel warmth creeping up her cheeks till they were completely covered in that rose pink colour. She looked at her chuda again. Maybe Saanvi was just like her dreams, she couldn't achieve her dreams and well, Saanvi was already out of League, she was like a forbidden fruit or maybe some extravagant luxury which could never be hers.
Manjiri stood up from the chair she was sitting upon and went towards her bag. It was bright afternoon outside earlier but then a huge blanket of clouds spread upon the sky. There was no electricity in the room and the only source of light to pierce this omnipresent darkness was the faint light coming from the only window on the wall opposite to the door. The light coming from it was not much but enough for Manjiri to fumble around. She pulled out the handkerchief with the letter 'M' embroidered on it from her bag. All the days which she had spent with Saanvi moved in front of her eyes like a train. She caressed it and traced the letter 'M' with her index finger, a soft smile lingering on her face. If she could spend some more time with Saanvi, if only she could....
Though she'd no energy and tears left in her eyes to cry, still her eyes welled up again while she couldn't stop thinking about Saanvi.
And suddenly she heard a soft thud in the balcony and the click of the door knob of the balcony door. She didn't dare to turn around and stood frozen in her tracks. And then all of a sudden somebody came up to her from behind and.....
A/N : So, what or who entered Manjiri's room via the balcony? Let me know what you think.
Now Manjiri has finally realized that she likes Saanvi. Will they confess each other? Sun Zara, soniye, Sun zara..... 💃💃💃
