Akshita's pov

Yesterday was really hectic for me. Lucas gave me a day off to rest, but I wanted to work, so now I’m walking to the office.

I reached the office and greeted the guard on my floor. He smiled and returned my greeting. As I walked into the hallway, it was quiet. I wondered if Lucas wasn’t coming in today. Great, I came here for nothing.

I shook my head and decided to call Lucas. The phone rang for a while, and I groaned when it went unanswered for the fifth time. I tried one last time.

On the sixth attempt, Lucas finally answered. I did a quick happy dance before realizing the call was live.

“Sorry, sir. I called to ask if you’re coming to the office today.”

“I gave you the day off,” he replied with a groggy voice. I bit my tongue, realizing I’d just interrupted his sleep.

"Sorry, I thought you would be coming-"

"Don't tell me you went to office."

"Hehe! Sorry, i did. Right now I am at the office."

"God! Akshita. Wait there. I will come soon."

"No don't, it's fine. I will go back home."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, you can go back to sleep. I will just do few work here and then head back home."

"Go with the driver."

"I will take cab."

"Sure. Go home and rest."

"Okay sir." And he hung up the call. I decided to do some work. I left for home around lunch time. I obviously walked, i can't waste money on cab.

Few days later, Everything is back to normal. It's a little tough to live. Even though working as Lucas's secretary gives me enough but I am still in lack of money.

I have a few loans to pay, along with bills, groceries, and rent, which still need to be covered even though Lucas denied it. New York is expensive to live in.

"Akshita, where are you lost? I’ve told you so many times to stop daydreaming during work hours." I bit my lip.

"Sorry, sir."

"It’s okay. Take these files to the finance department’s head and get his signature on them."

"Okay, sir. Anything else?"

"Yes, get me a coffee and a sandwich from the canteen." I nodded and took care of it. I got the signatures on the files and picked up the coffee and sandwich.

"Here you go, sir." I handed him the files and his food.

"Thanks. Didn’t you get anything for yourself?"

"No, sir."

"Wait, have this chocolate bar until lunchtime." I smiled and took the chocolate from him.

"Thank you." He smiled and nodded his head.

""I'll be leaving for some work. Cancel all my meetings." Lucas's voice startled me a few minutes later.

"Okay?"

"Yes, go home soon." I nodded.

I was getting ready for bed when my phone rang. It was Lucas’s number. Confused, I answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Is this someone named Corazón?" A male voice asked, but it wasn’t Lucas’s.

"Who are you?"
