It's been two months since that incident, and Lucas has taken his care for me to a whole new level. He even went as far as baby-proofing the backyard to the car.
"Akshi, where are you, sweetheart?" I heard his voice from the hallway. A smile spread across my face as I stood up, eager to see him, and made my way toward the living room.
As I entered the living room, Lucas's eyes lit up the moment he saw me. He immediately walked over, looking at me like he hadn't seen me in ages, even though he'd only been gone a few hours.
"Did you miss me that much?" I teased, smiling up at him.
He chuckled, wrapping his arms around me carefully. "Of course, I did. How's my little troublemaker doing?" he asked, his hand resting gently over my small bump.
"We're both doing fine," I replied, smiling as I placed my hand over his. "Though your 'little troublemaker' would like to go for a walk in the backyard."
Lucas raised an eyebrow, clearly concerned. "Only if you let me walk with you."
I laughed, nodding. "Fine, Mr. Overprotective."
We strolled into the backyard, Lucas's hand never leaving mine. He seemed extra cautious with each step I took, glancing over at me every few seconds. His protectiveness was endearing, and as much as I teased him about it, I couldn't help but feel loved and cherished.
As Lucas and I were enjoying the calmness of the backyard, we heard small footsteps padding towards us. Our daughter, who'd just turned five, ran over with a wide grin on her face.
"Mommy, Daddy!" she chirped, reaching up to hold both our hands. "Are we having a baby boy or a girl?"
Lucas chuckled, exchanging a playful look with me. "That's a surprise for next week, remember?" he said, tapping her nose gently.
She pouted, folding her arms. "But Dada, I wanna know now! Uncle Asher knows, so why can't we?"
I laughed, tousling her hair. "Because Uncle Asher is very good at keeping secrets. Plus, he'll make sure the surprise is perfect for us."
Her eyes sparkled with excitement. "Is Uncle Asher bringing the cake too?"
Lucas nodded, smiling as he squeezed her hand. "Yes, and he promised it would be extra special. All you need to do is be patient for just one more week."
She bounced on her toes, giggling. "Okay, I'll try!"

The day of the gender reveal arrived, and the backyard was beautifully decorated with soft pastel ribbons and fresh white roses. A long table was set up with delicate floral arrangements, and balloons in shades of pink, blue, and gold floated around the space, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
The centrepiece was a stunning white-frosted cake, with three elegant tiers adorned with small flowers and golden details. The cake was topped with a simple "?" symbol, and the inside was filled with either pink or blue frosting, matching the gender of their baby. As family gathered, excitement buzzed in the air, each person eagerly waiting to find out whether it would be a boy or a girl.
