"Where are we going?" I complained, standing impatiently by the door as Travis ran around throwing things into a bag. All he'd told me was to make sure I was wearing comfy clothes to walk in, so I'd put on a pair of white denim shorts, and a tight, light pink top that tucked neatly into my shorts.
"You'll see." He winked, and threw one strap of a backpack over his shoulder as he came to the front door, and opened it for me, gesturing for me to walk out first.
"If you're kidnapping me; please don't." I said seriously, and Travis laughed, then opened the car door for me.
He climbed into the drivers seat, turned on the car, and started driving to wherever we were going. "I'm not, but that's a good idea for next time." He teased, and I rolled my eyes, giggling at him.
"Okay- this is starting to look a lot more like a kidnapping now." I murmured, after what was nearly 2 hours of driving. We had gone from driving in city/suburban areas to now being surrounded by trees, in some sort of forest, I assumed. I was definitely being kidnapped, it was the only reasonable explanation for what was happening.
"It's not, you just have to trust me." Travis laughed, and I smiled at him. He knew I was only teasing him. Not long later, he parked the car in a small, secluded carpark in the middle of the forest.
Travis loved to take me on surprise dates. Whether it was just making me a romantic dinner at home, or flying me to a whole other country for a holiday, he was the best, and I made sure to never under appreciate him.
"Will you tell me where we are now?" I begged as I climbed out of the car, but Travis just chuckled and shook his head. After grabbing the backpack and swinging it over his shoulder, he grabbed my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine.
"Nope. You'll see soon." Travis grinned like he was proud of himself, and we started to walk together on a half path through the forest. I say half path, because you could only semi see a trail, but there were no signs, no handrails, just a very thin clearing through the trees that Travis seemed to know his way through.
"The air feels so fresh out here." I breathed in, the faint smell of petrichor making me smile. It wasn't raining, but the air was damp, with a cool breeze, it was perfect.
"It does, doesn't it." Travis replied, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.
I looked around me at the towering trunks, adorned with lichen and moss. My heart started to race with anticipation as Travis led the way. I'm a sucker for anything to do with nature, but we don't get to go out as often as we'd like, so this felt extra special to me.
"Listen to that." Travis whispered, and the sound of running water filled my ears. I hadn't even noticed it until Travis pointed it out to me. I smiled at him, he smiled back, and we continued walking.
Further along the trail, the sound of water grew louder, and I urged Travis to walk faster, my curiosity getting the best of me.
Not long later, we emerged into a small clearing, and I gasped at the breathtaking sight in front of me – the most beautiful waterfall cascading down from a rocky cliff into a tranquil pool below.
"Travis." I breathed, taking in the sight in front of me.
"See? Not kidnapping you." He grinned at me, and I smiled, glancing at him before I turned my attention back to the water. The way it glistened in the sunlight, and created a delicate mist in the air.
We approached the edge of the water cautiously, and giggled together when the falling water created a cool spray on our faces.
"This is so beautiful. Thank you for taking me here." I gazed at the sight in front of me, and felt Travis slip his hands around my waist from behind, resting his chin gently on my shoulder.
