Standing in front of the mirror, I gently bounced my 3 month old baby girl against my hip, letting her look at herself in the mirror - one of her most recent favourite activities. "Did you sleep well my sweet girl?"

I smiled as Isla brought her tiny fists to her eyes, rubbing them tiredly after having just woken up from her nap. I was lucky that I'd managed to shower, wash my hair and blow dry it all before she woke up, otherwise I knew she wouldn't have let me. Travis had left a few hours ago to get to the stadium, leaving my baby girl and I by ourselves for most of the day before we had to be at the game. Isla was a clingy baby, so getting ready would be difficult without Travis's help.

She started to make a few fussy sounds, some soft little whimpers, so I made myself comfortable in the rocking chair in the corner of Isla's nursery, lifted my shirt off my head, unhooked my bra, and let her start suckling away. She'd had a good, big feed before her nap, so this would just be a comfort feed until she wakes up a bit more. She'd been doing that a lot lately- comfort feeding. I'd done my research and found out it's normal for babies to want to nurse even when they aren't hungry, just as a sense of security, but god, it was exhausting.

With my hand that wasn't supporting most of her weight, I gently brushed through her soft blonde tufts of hair, until a few minutes later, she started to pull away.

I gently pulled Isla away from my breast, then with one hand hooked up my bra and pulled my shirt back over my head. If having a baby has taught me anything- it's that anything can be done with one hand.

I lifted Isla up into my arms, holding her securely on my hip, feeling her soft little body pressed against mine. She blinked sleepily, her face still half-hidden in the crook of my arm. I smiled down at her, and couldn't help but think about how fast she was growing. It seemed like only yesterday she was just a tiny newborn, and now, she was already beginning to show her own little personality.

Gently patting her back, I stood up slowly, and walked over to the window, pushing open the shutters just a crack to let the sun shine in. Isla's eyes widened as she lifted her head off my shoulder to look outside, her tiny fingers reaching towards the sunlight as if she was trying to grab it.

"Oh, you like the sunshine, don't you?" I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper since she was still waking up. I brushed a little stray strand of hair from her face and kissed her forehead, and she looked up at me. "Alright sweetie, how about we practice sitting up for a bit."

She was only 3 months old, but Isla seemed to have a lot of interest in trying to sit up, so Travis and I made sure to spend a little bit of time practicing every day.

I took her next door into our bedroom, and propped up some pillows, and tried to sit her up in front of them. Her little body immediately tumbled to the side, and she burst into fits of giggles before I lifted her up again.

"Look at you trying so hard!" I laughed, watching her tiny hands flail as she tried to balance. Each time she tried to stay upright, she would wobble and tip over, her little head falling to the side. "Come on, you can do it." I giggled, trying to sit her up again, but it was pretty clear she still needed a bit more practice.

When she tumbled over for about the tenth time, I let her stay lying down, watching her as she tried to figure out how to roll onto her back. She had rolled over before, a few times, but still struggled sometimes. Her little arms waved around as she tried to roll over, and eventually, with a triumphant little wiggle, she managed to get there.

"You did it baby!" I clapped my hands softly, "Mommy's so proud of you."

She looked up at me with her big, bright blue eyes, all curious and innocent, with the biggest gummy grin. My heart melted, it had been three months and I still couldn't believe how much love I had for this little girl.
