Travis
I stirred awake to the sunlight in my eyes, and rolled over, instinctively going to pull my wife closer into my chest, but I was met with an empty, cold space in the bed. She must have been up for a while. I blinked a few times to adjust to the light, and tapped my phone to check the time. It was barely 7 in the morning, what on earth was she doing?
I stretched and sat up, yawned, then rolled out of bed and pulled on a pair of long red and white plaid pyjama pants. I didn't bother with a shirt, but I did slip on some socks, then padded down the stairs in search of my girl.
A waft of cinnamon and sugar hit me before I even reached the living room, and when I rounded the corner, I stopped in my tracks, a grin spreading wide across my face.
There was my wife, standing on a little step stool, trying to hang a little piece of mistletoe in the doorway, a Santa hat perched on her head. She had on the same, matching pair of plaid pants as me, and a little white tank top, and she was so focussed, her tongue slightly sticking out as it always did when she was concentrating, fiddling with the little plant.
My heart melted at the sight of her, and her silly little hat. She looked so cute, so happy, and so perfectly in her element.
Unable to resist, I stepped behind her, and slid my arms around her waist, pulling her close. She gasped, then giggled, stepping down off the little stool before turning around to lean into my chest. "Travis!"
"Good morning my love," I murmured, burying my face into her hair, which smelled like peppermint shampoo. I looked up, nodding at the mistletoe above us. "Well look at that... we seem to be under the mistletoe." I teased, tucking some of her hair behind her ears.
Taylor looked up at me, her eyes twinkling with excitement. Without missing a beat, she tugged me down, pressing her lips to mine, soft and sweet. It was the best kind of good morning kiss – the kind that made me forget about anything and everything else in the world.
When we pulled apart, I smiled softly at her, and brushed my thumb over her lips. "Baby, it was halloween like... seven hours ago. Are you sure it's Christmas already?"
Taylor gave me a look, raising one eyebrow, "Well, yeah. It's November, which means it's Christmas!" She grinned, her cheeks flushing a light pink.
I chuckled lightly, shaking my head as I looked around at the decorations she'd already put up. I wasn't even half surprised she'd woken up at the crack of dawn to do this. It was so Taylor. There were twinkling lights hung up around the place, boxes of ornaments scattered across the coffee table, cinnamon sugar and gingerbread scented candles lit, and every spare surface was covered with little random Christmas decorations.
"You can help me decorate, and then we're making Christmas cookies." Taylor smiled as she nudged the step stool to the side.
"Christmas cookies on November 1st?" I chuckled, leaning back against the wall, "You're crazy."
Taylor stepped towards me, closing the gap between us, "Maybe, but you love me." She grinned, poking me playfully in the chest.
Of course I did. God, this woman was my entire world. "Oh sweetie, you have no idea how much I love you." I pulled her in tight, running my fingers through her soft curls.
