“How!? There’s a blood thirsty infected out there going to kill us if we screw up a tiny bit!” Axel argued. “We’ll just be quiet and sneak out and go around.” Jessica answered. “How are we going to get out? If we go down there he’ll see us. And I would rather not take that chance knowing what could happen.” Lukas questioned Jessica more about her plan.
“We can... craft ladders! We can use them to get down.” Jessica stated, smiling. Lukas was hesitant and worried about the outcome. “Alright.” He nodded, pulling out some sticks and handing them to Jessica. She approached a nearby crafting table, making the ladders. “There!” Now, let’s get out of here!” She stated, pulling the ladder down.
Axel went first, Jessica following shortly behind. She was just about to sneak out until she saw Lukas at the window. “Lukas? Are you coming?” She asked. “We have a much bigger problem.” Lukas added, looking outside. “What is it?” She asked. “He’s gone. Gill isn’t there anymore.” Lukas answered.
Jessica’s heart sank. “JESSICA!!! LOOK OUT!!!” Axel yelled. Jessica looked behind her, seeing the thing break the ladder. She fell into the safe place as it collapsed. She backed away, scared. “Oh fuck...” Lukas added under his breath. It slowly emerged through the open windows, its deformed smile drooping lower, blood dripping from its eyes.
Its neck elongated towards Jessica as she backed away. It’s claw hand was just about to snatch her until Lukas chopped off his arm. It let out a loud shriek, then looked towards Lukas. He looked at Jessica. “Run.” He demanded, before running off, being chased by the creature.
She took no time to hesitate, immediately running to the window the ladder was at and jumping out, landing successfully. “Where’s Lukas!?” Axel asked. Jessica was just about to answer until a loud scream was heard. It sounded like someone was being murdered. “LUKAS!!!” Jessica yelled, running towards the area of the scream, Axel following.
“WAIT UP-...” Axel began to say before seeing the infected on the ground, its head chopped off. Axel looked over at Jessica, who was focused on something else. She quickly rushed towards Lukas, Axel doing the same. Axel immediately realized what she noticed.
Lukas had a stab wound through his chest. It was from the infected. He was all bloody, crying as some dripped from his wound. He was clearly in agony. The sword was still in his hand, blood on it from the infected.
Jessica immediately searched for bandages to help him. “Here. These should be good.” Axel insisted, handing her ones for situations like these. Jessica took them quickly, not even bothering to thank him, terrified and stressing over the current situation.
Lukas just stayed silent, having trouble breathing. “J-Jessica, that should be fine.” He chuckled. “I’m not risking it. I’m not losing my best friend now. Especially after being such a shitty one to you.” She insisted, making sure it was secure and tight on him.
“Jessica, it’s fine.” He smiled. “It’s not! I didn’t even bother to help you, and I don’t need to lose you too! I already lost all my other friends from this damn thing, I-I’m not letting you die either!” She cried. “Jessica, I’m not blaming you for that. You clearly have been through stuff too. Even if you don’t want to admit it.” Lukas answered.
It was silent for a moment. “You didn’t have to save me.” She muttered. “I didn’t, but I did. It’s better to be together, than apart.” He smiled. She smiled back. She hugged him tightly. “I’m sorry.” She added. “It’s okay. I forgive you.” He answered.
