Chapter 54: Nightmares

Lukas shot up from the bed, panting. The image played through his head. Over and over. It terrorized him. It’s been taunting him ever since the encounter.

Lukas was back at the abandoned shelter, backing away from Gill, running into the wall behind him. Lukas sank to the ground as Gill got closer. It extended his neck when he got closer. Lukas grabbed an arrow in a rush, stabbing him in the head, running away. Then, it happened. Lukas froze in place, feeling like something went through him.

Lukas looked down, seeing a huge claw finger through him. Lukas collapsed to the ground, coughing up blood. Gill towered over him, raising one of his hands. Lukas turned around, seeing him, a giant, droopy smile forming on his face, a purple shine in his black holes for eyes. A loud screech played out through his head as he woke up.

Lukas was mortified. It must have been the sickness. It couldn’t affect him like others, but it still hurt him in other ways. He didn’t want to fall asleep. He couldn’t. He would have appeared again. Lukas curled up into a ball, taking breaths. A gentle knock echoed through the room. “C-come in.” Lukas stuttered.

The door opened, Ivy appearing. “You good?” Ivy asked. “Y-yeah.” Lukas answered. Ivy came in, looking at the bandage around his chest. “What’s this from?” Ivy asked. Lukas sighed, showing the stab wound. “Whoa.” Ivy stated. “It was from an infected. I’m immune, though.” Lukas assured.

“Then you might be able to cure someone.” Ivy added. “I-I can’t.” Lukas added, undoing the bandage covering the purple spot. “I would if I could. But I’m infected, I might be able to fight it off, but it’s still there... I’m kinda the reason Jesse got infected so fast... I didn’t know.” Lukas admitted, crying.

“Well, I have a plan. I’ll tell you when it’s done.” Ivy assured him. Lukas nodded. “Now, I have to go and help Olivia out. Take care.” Ivy added, waving goodbye. “Bye...” Lukas replied, Ivy closing the door. He kept wondering: What WAS the plan.
