"She's scared of me."
Everyone's heart drops at that sentence.
Chris' heart drops.
Matt's heart drops.
And Violets heart drops.
Little did the two brothers know that Violet has been listening to their conversation the whole time.
She walked past the bottom of the staircase right after Chris flew into Matt's arms, and right when Matt said: "I love her so much, Chris! She just left!"
Violet couldn't help but stay after that.
She knew it was about her, and she just had to know what they were going to say.
But she didn't expect this.
"Woah no no no that's not true, Matt. She's not scared of you. She just loves you so much and she's hurt. She loves you more than herself and so do you which was why you two were fighting so often." Chris rambles in attempt to get that disgusting thought out of Matt's head.
"Don't even try, Chris." Violet whispers to herself behind the door.
"Don't even fucking try, Chris! I know she's scared of me. Why would she flinch with my movements then, hm? Why would she break up with me because I've yelled at her? Because she's terrified of me." Matt sobs.
Violet couldn't help it.
Her hand was on the door handle before she knew it.
And the door of Matt's bedroom was open before she saw it.
Both brother's head snap up, and they both look at Violet who was only looking at Matt in pain.
She couldn't help but let a tear fall from her eye.
"That's not true..." she struggles out in a whisper.
Chris was surprisingly very quick to get up and leave Matt's room, shutting the door behind him so that Violet and Matt have some time alone.
"Don't you dare say that." Violet sobs quietly, approaching Matt.
"I'm not scared of you, Matt...I'm scared of losing you. We fought so much I was scared I was gonna lose you. And every time you yelled at me— Chris was right. I didn't break up with you because I stopped loving you. I broke up with you because...because..." Violet really doesn't want to say it.
"Because you remind me of him." She whispers, sitting down next to Matt.
Matt drops a couple more tears, normally he'd know exactly who and what she's talking about, but he's really struggling right now.
"W- who?" He regretted that he asked it. And he will until forever.
Violet clears her throat, but instead chokes out a sob.
"Rowan."
She whispers quietly, looking down and fiddling with her fingers.
