I hang with Shan and Claire when school ends. We're waiting for Hugh, Gibsie, and Johnny. They're at rugby practice.

We're all just gathered in a circle on the ground.

We laugh and talk about the boys, or what happened at school today. I do some schoolwork at the same time.

Like how Lizzie wasn't at lunch today.

Or how she looked at me this morning.

Of course, I would say these things out loud, but they feel personal. Like only I should know what she did to me specifically.

Also, I'm sure I'm the only one who wondered where she was during lunch, anyway.

But I hate her.

"Really, Shan? Oh my god, your boyfriend is truly an angel sent from heaven." Claire beamed while popping a chip into her mouth, looking at Shannon will only love in her eyes.

I look at them with a small smile, but it feels forced.

Shannon's cheeks were visibly flushed as she waved Claire off. "Gibsie is a nice guy too, ya know? You guys are perfect for eachother."

"Yeah. I agree. You guys are.." I trail off shyly, getting embarrassed for no good reason. "..really, really funny."

Claire grins at me now, and it's contagious, so I start smiling too.

~~

Claire finishes her mini bag of chips, getting up to throw away the bag.

Shannon stays quiet, but I can tell she's content right now.

It's nice to be with someone who doesn't mind the awkward silence.

3 hours have passed and the boys finally finished with rugby practice. The sun was already setting.

I packed up my things while Claire and Shan talked, shoving Lizzie's jacket all the way down to the bottom of my bag.

I notice Gibsie, Johnny, and my boyfriend approaching as I stand up, swinging my backpack onto my shoulders. They all look like they're in a good mood.

I give Hugh a smile but he doesn't see me first.

He sees Lizzie standing a few feet behind me, leaning against a wall with her arms crossed.

Because of course, she finally decides to make an appearance right now, terrorizing me with her haunting blue eyes.

Her pretty blue eyes.

It's common knowledge that Lizzie Young is beautiful, really.

Nobody wants to accept it because she's truly rotten on the inside.

Hugh's smile fades but he drags his eyes back to me as he gets closer.

"Hey, baby." He murmurs, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and dropping a kiss on my head.

But Lizzie is what he looks at while doing so.
