87 lbs.

It's not enough, but we're getting there.

We'll never get there, Katie. Stop trying.

Shannon will always be smaller than you.

You'll never be enough.

Hugh will always love Liz-

I quickly put my scale back against the bathroom wall, where it always stays.

Where it always watches me and taunts me until all I hear is the voices in my head telling me to be smaller, skinnier, tiny.

I turn the faucet on and splash my face with the water.

Immediately I shiver, because the water is so, so cold.

Just how I like it. It helps me start my mornings better; it wakes me up better than anything else.

I brush my teeth and lightly do my skincare (and light makeup) afterwards. It's really nothing crazy - Eye cream, sunscreen, lip balm and mascara.

When I get out of the bathroom I head to my room to change into the Tommen College uniform.

I decide to change into a new, fresh pair of knickers - I'm hanging with Hugh after school today, as soon as he finishes rugby practice.

In the meantime before then, I'm hanging with Shan and Claire. They're waiting for their boyfriends too.

The knickers I chose are pink and are slightly lacy.

I hope Hugh likes them.

I hope he likes me.

After pulling my skirt, tights, socks, shoes, and everything else on, I do my tie in front of my bedroom mirror.

Then I head downstairs, immediately getting overwhelmed by the smell of food.

My mam made breakfast.

"Katie, pet, come, come!" She said with a smile as soon as she saw me. I bite back a groan.

I offer her a small smile, walking over to the kitchen. "Hi, mam. Smells good in here." I say softly.

I didn't think her smile could possibly get any wider, but it does. "Thank you, dearest. Take some toast for school, okay? I was waiting for you to get out the bathroom - Didn't realize you were done with your business already!" She said, wiping her hands on her apron after putting two slices of buttered toast on a small plate for me.

I smile at her again, holding the plate awkwardly in my hands.

I always thought my mam was very beautiful. She has long ginger hair, like me, except hers is more wavy than mine. My natural hair is curly but I straighten it every other two days.

I sigh, putting the plate down on the kitchen counter and folding one piece of toast into what looks like half a piece of toast.

She, thankfully, removed the crust for me. I hate crust.

Running upstairs to grab my backpack on my bedroom floor, I race down the stairs again while yelling to my mom: "I'll be home by 7! Hugh is taking me to school! I love you!"

And then I'm off.
