I have a dream a couple nights later.
~~
Tall grass sways at my feet and tickles my freckled arms as I stand in a field. It's sunny but it's not hot, which makes it all the more lovely.
The cool, gentle breeze of the wind makes my long dress sway. It's white. Almost.. Princess-like. Except I'm a princess sneaking off to meet a knight, not go to a ball.
When I look up the tall grass seems to clear and not tickle me anymore. There's a big oak tree far from me but right infront of me at the same time.
I see someone sitting there.
I start running to the tree, the grass soft and leaving my feet slightly wet, and the wind whistling as I pass it by.
When I near the tree I see that it's Lizzie.
She's playing around with a dandelion, wearing all white, too. Just like me. Except she wears shorts and a baggy white shirt. The collar is cut from it, so I see her shoulders.
Her hair looks freshly washed and clean. It cascades down her back and blows gently in the wind. She looks like the dandelion she's playing with.
I smile as I catch my breath, then sit infront of her. "Hey," I say softly.
"Hey." She responds, looking up at me now.
I reach over to my right, grabbing three dandelions. There seems to be a little patch that grows there. There's also patches scattered all around the tree to pick from.
"Lizzie, let's go and pick all the dandelions!" I exclaim, smiling as I blow the most important part of the dandelions right off. They fly around like angels and get lost in the sky.
"Nooo," She laughs, "We can't. We have to leave them so more can grow, and so everyone else has a chance of blowing some dandelions, too." She speaks softly. Kindly. All while looking at me.
"But it's spring. There'll be plenty left." I try convincing her, but she only smiles and gives a shake of her head.
"Katie?"
"Yeah?"
"In the future, I'm gonna marry you."
I shift around.
"When it's acceptable. Even if we're old and have gray hairs, I'm gonna marry you." She looks up at the branches of the tree now. "Maybe it'll be right under here."
"And we'll have some kids too." I play along, leaning back to lay on my back while looking up at the sky.
She giggles, "Kids." Lizzie shakes her head. "Yeah, sure, we'll have some kids. A little blond boy and a ginger girl."
"And she'll have your blue eyes," I whisper.
"Yeah. Yeah. And we'll live together in New York or something, in our own little apartment, and all of our dreams will come true." She moves to hover over me now, her long hair working as a curtain to shield us both from the world.
I grin and pluck a new dandelion to tickle her nose with it.
She sniffs, scrunching up her nose. I laugh because everything is ten times funnier when you're in love. "It's you and me, Lizzie."
"And it's me and you, Katie." She says while sniffling - The dandelion must have made her start wanting to sneeze.
I laugh harder, and we tumble down the hills, and take naps at the tree, and tell stories and legends of long ago.
~~
When I wake up, I cry and curl into my sheets, begging to go to sleep again.
