I'm having a Galentines tonight with Shannon and Claire.
I feel a lot like the leftover friend.
They seem to bond effortlessly with each other, like velcro. And I just watch them. What else can I do? I'm not the Siren. She used to be really close with both of them.
Now, I rarely see her doing school hours. I don't even see her walk home or go to Tommen anymore. Trust me, I do everything I can to even get a glimpse of her. My teachers have been asking me why I come to class late all of a sudden. Hopefully I don't get expelled.
"Okay, it's Katie's turn!" Claire's upbeat voice brings me back to reality. The harsh reality.
She shifts around on her fuzzy pink carpet, facing me instead of Shan like how she was a second ago. I don't know exactly why we're sitting on her carpet. I would say it's pretty comfy, though.
Shan gives me a soft smile, her hair in some weird, curled up-do that shows all the angles of her pretty face. Oh no. What exactly are we doing? I wasn't paying attention.
"Huh?" I questioned, my brow furrowing as I sat up straighter. Claire giggles, "You and Shannon both have straight hair. So, why not curl it? We can all be twins!" She exclaims.
They don't know I already have curly hair.
My eyes widen in disbelief. That can't be right. No, don't overthink it.
I toy with the end of one strand of hair absently, watching Claire gather more of those curlers you use along with clips to pin the hair into place. I don't know what they're called - I never had to use them. I'm more familiar with a straightener, if anything.
"Come on, Katie. It's just something fun to do to past a little time. Actually, I can put on a movie for us in my living room after this. We can eat all of our chocolates our boyfriends got us." She winks.
One side of my lips curve up. Okay. this shouldn't be that bad.
~~
I was right. It wasn't that bad. Yeah.. I was just overreacting. They don't seem to be noticing the way I have been holding one piece of chocolate the whole time the movie has been playing, so I guess I have blended in nicely.
Honestly, I don't even know the plot of the movie we're watching. Claire and her obsession with Johnny Depp has gotten.. To a point, to say it simply.
"Gah, Shan, pay attention!" The blonde mumbles around a piece of chocolate, sitting up better on the couch. Shannon, bless her soul, has been asking questions the whole time. Maybe she genuinely doesn't understand it.
"You read romance books all the time, how is this any different?" Claire whines with a slight pout. Shan blushes fiercely, "That's different, Claire.." The girl grumbles.
"Okay, well, Crybaby is a classic, so pay attention." Claire giggles as she nudges Shannons shoulder. I turn my attention back to the TV as the two girls grow silent.
The movie drones on but my mind is somewhere else completely.
Brokeback Mountain.
I had watched it with the Siren.
It was a stupid movie, really. A stupid, stupid movie. So dumb.
Lizzie had thought that way about the film too. I remember crying over it, and she seemed indifferent.
My stomach clenches.
What if something like that happens to her and I? Where we just hook up once every year, for 20 years straight. I think death would be more accepting than that kind of fate.
And what if we get married and have kids? She'd probably be with Hugh - He has always loved her - But I don't know who I'd be with. Probably some random guy I met at a coffee shop when I'm 30 will be my husband, because it's just easier to settle down.
I wish I could have kids with her, though. I really, really wish. We could have a straight-haired little ginger running around with blue eyes. Or maybe a fiery blond that acts just like his other mama.
What am I saying? I can't think these thoughts. Gay marriage is illegal, is it not? How would getting a kid as two girls work? I need to do research on that when I get home..
And what if one of us.. Di-
"Mm, I'm gonna get up some more pop, girlies!" Claire chirps, successfully getting rid of all my delusions. She stands and I give her a soft smile as I hand her my cup.
When she's gone into the kitchen I sigh - Though not loud enough to make Shannon question it was any more than a yawn.
Tonight is going to be a long, restless night.
