There's a party on Friday.
It's all Gibsie has been talking about.
The cafeteria is crowded, but of course I'm able to snag a seat at the rugby table.
That's one of my perks of dating Hugh.
I smile as I watch everyone engage in conversation. Everyone except Johnny and Shannon. They're always in their own little world.
"So, I was thinkin', Claire-Bear, that we could match for Friday?" Gibs asked, waggling his eyebrows at her as he took a spoonful of food off her plate, shoveling it into his mouth.
She laughed, crossing her arms. "Match? That's going to be a disaster.." I tune her out as I pick at my lunch plate.
I can feel Hugh tracing light patterns on my arm as he watches the sunshine couple bounce back and forth in conversation.
Patrick gently nudges my arm with a smile, and I look up.
"You going to the party?" He asks me.
I nod, sitting up a little straighter. "Yeah. Just thinking about what I should wear." I lied, covering it up with a little smile.
I'm tired of everyone thinking something's wrong with me when I don't speak. I'm just not that talkative, why doesn't anyone get it?
Feely hummed in response, "Good. I'm gonna go, too." He leaned in closer, whispering softly in my ear.
"I'm only going because Casey is going."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
I smiled wide. I loved Casey, she was still my bestfriend despite attending a different school. I only wanted the best for her.
And knowing she's seeing Patrick Feely? It's perfect. They're perfect together.
"She told me she was seeing a guy named Alec or something. But it seems she upgraded, huh? I say playfully and a deep rumble leaves his chest.
He shrugs, "You're the only person who knows - Nobody here is paying attention. Felt like telling you since you two are close, anyway." He murmurs. I nod, staring down at my food again.
I bring my head up to listen to Gibsie and Hugh arguing when Feely speaks again.
"The Viper is gonna be there. The party on Friday, I mean."
Goddamnit.
