After the interviews, the group handed over their weapons. Parker was forced to say goodbye to the gun she had since the farm and the rifle that accompanied her from the prison, but she was allowed to keep her knife. They were sentimental in a strange way because they had been why she'd made it this far.
"They're still your guns," Deanna assured the group as they laid their weapons on the cart. "You can check them out whenever you go beyond the wall. But, inside here, we store them for safety." The girl responsible for the armory, Olivia, looked at the amount of weapons the group had accumulated over time, with a look of surprise on her face.
"Should've brought another bin." She chuckled awkwardly as the guns overflowed. Aaron then led Rick, Parker, and Carl down the street to where two houses stood. One was blue, a little larger than the other, which was a beige color. Parker thought they were beautiful, and when Aaron announced they were both for their group, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Both of 'em?" Rick asked, shocked. Parker had the same question as she looked at Aaron.
"At your disposal," Aaron opened his arms out before pointing at the blue house. "I'd call dibs on that one. It's got more... curb appeal. Listen, I know you're still feeling us out, but I'm glad you came. Anyway, Deanna's asked everyone to give you your space so they aren't all coming at you at once. Take your time. Explore. If you need anything, you call me."
"I'm sorry? You have working phones?" Parker pinched her eyebrows together in confusion. She figured phones had gone out when the outbreak got worse.
"No.... no. I don't... w- we don't have phones," Aaron stuttered. "I mean... I meant I'm four houses down." He pointed in the direction of his house.
"Thank you," Carl thanked him. Parker looked at her brother a joking smile on her face.
"Can we go in now... or are we looking for traps and explosives?"
"Yeah, you can go in, just be careful," Rick warned them. Parker headed into the house with Rick, opening the door slowly. The first thing she noticed was the smell, a freshness that could only mean that no one had been here before them other than to maintain the place. It wasn't a barn and it wasn't full of walkers and blood. It was clean, and fresh and felt like a home rather than just a place to seek refuge. There were picture frames by the door to allow them to put anything they'd like on the walls. To decorate it how they'd like. Parker thought about the pictures she had in the front pouch of her backpack and wondered if Aaron had any empty scrapbooks she could use.
She headed upstairs, looking for the bedrooms. There were four large bedrooms in the house, three with private bathrooms and one without, and there was a nursery- perfect for Judith. Parker sat on one of the beds, looking around the room. The mattress sunk under her weight, but it wasn't the same as the ones in the prison. It was actually comfortable, molding to her body as she sat there. She didn't stay long because she was gross and covered in dirt and dried blood, but when she entered the bathroom and saw the showers and figured out they were working, she ran down the stairs to tell Rick and Carl.
"Showers," Was all Parker said, with a pleased tone in her voice. "Hot water. Towels. Shampoo. Oh my god, am I in heaven?! Did I die without knowing?" Carl laughed at how excited she was.
"Not exactly."
"So what do you say, boss?" Parker asked, a teasing tone in her voice as she nudged Rick's arm. "Are we allowed to stay? Should I round up the others?" Rick hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"Yeah. Call 'em over." Parker walked out the door, nearly tripping over Daryl on the steps outside as the rest of the group walked up the road toward the houses. She took his hand, helping him to his feet.
