Parker froze, her eyes wide and her mouth hanging open as the sentence processed in her head. "Your.. wife..?" She repeated the words, finding it hard to believe any normal person would want to marry him.
"Yes," Negan breathed out, unable to look at her. "My real wife. Before all this shit happened."
"Wha- what happened to her?" Parker asked awkwardly.
"She got sick," Negan replied. "But she was the one for me. She gave me everything. I didn't give her shit and she stood by me... I cheated on her more times than I'd like to admit, but she stuck by me. That's why you remind me of her. Because of how fiercely loyal you are to your family. How you are with Daryl. And you give me shit for everything." Well, whatever was happening was starting to creep her out. Whatever side of Negan this was.. she didn't feel like she was supposed to see it. Parker didn't expect things to take this type of turn, but as she sat on the bed with her hand on her stomach, she stopped thinking about herself for a moment.
"So she's..?" Parker trailed off already assuming the worst
"Yeah, she died," He answered the unasked question. "I spent every minute I could with her when she got sick, trying to redeem myself. When she passed away, I... I didn't know what to do."
"I'm sorry," Parker muttered the words. "I am sorry about your wife. Sort of explains why you are the way you are. A bit."
"That's why I don't want to hurt you," Negan continued. "You remind me too much of her and the whole... about to explode thing." He pointed at her stomach.
"Why can't you just let us go? We'll do whatever you want, just let us go. This baby... will never be yours, no matter how long you keep me here. I'm sorry about your wife, but I am not her. I'm sorry." Parker pleaded with him, trying to bargain for her freedom while trying to come off as sympathetic. She did feel bad- not for him but for his dead wife.
"I can't let you go," Negan placed a hand on the door handle, getting ready to leave.
"Why not?"
"Because Daryl hasn't learned his lesson yet."
"Just...just leave him alone," Parker mumbled. "He feels guilty enough already, and your men keep beating him, and I...I need him." Negan looked at her for a moment, as if he was thinking over the thought in his head.
"That is not something that I can do. At least, not until he starts doing as he's told." Parker blinked back tears, looking down at her feet.
"I don't know what you want me to do. I- what am I supposed to say to get you to stop?"
"Are you finally speechless?" He laughed dryly. "It's about time."
"I just want to sleep," Parker stated, done talking to him. "It's been a long day. I need some time to process everything that's happened."
"I'm sure I'll see more of you tomorrow," Negan stared for a moment longer before walking out of the room. Parker stayed up, waiting until the Sanctuary was silent, and once it was, she snuck out of her room. She slipped through the hallways, heading to the cell she knew Daryl was kept in. There were no guards stationed this late at night, so she opened the door as quietly as she could and crept inside. Daryl was lying on the floor, but when he saw Parker enter dressed in her t-shirt and jeans, he sat up.
"What are you...?"
"I just needed a hug," Parker said, sitting next to Daryl. "I needed to see you." Her voice broke as tears filled her eyes. "I miss you."
"I miss you too" Daryl whispered, pulling her closer.
"This is all getting to be too much," Parker admitted, sinking into Daryl's embrace. "I thought I could handle it, being here, but I can't. It's terrible. I know you're here but I can't see you and seeing Rick and Carl today felt like a punch to the gut ...it was too much and I...I don't know what I'm doing."
