Winning The Battle But Not The War

In the morning, Jadis and her people arrived to provide more reinforcements to Alexandria. Apparently she and Rick had made some deal during Parker and Daryl's stay in the Kingdom. Parker was set up on one of the highest balconies, two rifles behind her as she tried to assess which angle would be best. From where she was she could see most of the west side of the town, covering most of the buildings and streets. She decided that this building was as good as any other. She grabbed another peach from the can next to her, chewing it slowly as she ran her hand over her stomach.

"Today is the day," Parker whispered. "Mom and Dad are going to kick ass, so be good twins, and don't bother me too much." She grabbed one of the rifles, carrying it to the other side of the balcony, where she placed it on a stand so it was ready for use. She had more rounds of ammunition than she thought she needed, but Rick had said it was better to be safe than sorry. Checking the scope, Parker saw Daryl, Rosita, and Aaron working on setting up some explosives on a truck that would be used to disable most of Negan's forces before they even set foot in town. She heard footsteps on the stairs behind her, turning to see Tara appear with a smile on her face.

"Everything ready?" Tara asked. Parker nodded, looking around the rooftop.

"Just one entry point, so I'll see if anyone comes. Both rifles are loaded and I have a good view from here. I'm a little worried about the distance, though. I've never shot from this far away, and from this distance... and with moving targets..?" Tara smiled, already having thought of her having second thoughts.

"Already got that covered. I set some targets up on the streets because I figured you'd be freaking out. Take a look." Sure enough, when Parker looked through the rifle scope on the west side of the building, she saw that Tara had tampered with some targets. There were empty wine bottles near the entrance to the cemetery, and some empty cans hanging from the porches on the street closest to it. Parker stepped back with a smile

"You're amazing, Tara."

"Practice a little," Tara suggested, pointing to the rifle. "You have the ammo." Parker missed the first bottle but got the second easily. She saw the glass break from where she and Tara were watching, and then she found her rhythm. Broken bottles littered the street, and cans hanging from ropes now rolled across porches.

"If you hit the first bottle of amla wine, I'll give you my last Twizzler," Tara said. Parker felt a pang in her chest at the mention of the candy. It reminded her of Glenn in Atlanta when Parker was forced to give up her last Twizzler because Glenn won her bet. Forcing a smile, Parker looked through the scope of her rifle.

"Easy." She hit the bottle in the distance, the bullet shattering it, and Tara reluctantly handed her the candy.

"Damn. You're a good shot." Tara muttered in awe. "You know, if this all goes to shit, Daryl gets to kill Dwight, and I call killing him once he turns into a walker." She started and Parker furrowed her eyebrows unsure of where she was going with this.

"Here. We can split it," Parker cut the Twizzler in half with her knife as she whispered the words, her mind cursing her with memories of her old run with Glenn. "We'll find more," Parker said, placing the Twizzle half in her mouth.

"What do you get out of this?" Tara continued.

"I've.." Parker sighed as she looked down at the town below her. "I have gotten my fair share of revenge in this world. Dwight fucked with the wrong people and he knows it. But even if he is lying, he isn't mine to kill." She shook her head, checking her gun for the twentieth time. "Besides, I get to kill some Saviors." Tara laughed at the last part, tilting her head.

"That's fair."

"You better join the others."

"Will you be okay up here?" Tara questioned her, sounding unsure.
