Due to the herds combining and causing the collapse of the bridge, it also wrecked the trading routes between the communities. Groups from every place were called out to rebuild.
A month after Parker and Daryl relinquished their control over the Sanctuary, they were camping out in the forest along with people from Alexandria, the Kingdom, the Sanctuary, Oceanside, and Hilltop.
For the time being, this was their temporary home while everyone worked to rebuild the bridge so they could reconnect all the communities.
Construction had begun a few days after Parker and Daryl had moved over to Hilltop. The night they arrived was the same night when Maggie had decided to publicly execute Gregory.
All communities came together to pitch in and help with the necessary repairs. It was a big job, and with so many people working together, it wasn't hard to see the tensions rising. The Saviors being in the center of everything.
They didn't like the other communities, and most certainly didn't try to pretend to get along with them. And the underlying support for Negan that still lingered within their ranks was dangerous.
Parker and Daryl were now closer to Alexandria than they were Hilltop, so they moved the twins there to be with Judith. They took turns returning and visiting. Spending half a day with their babies before returning in the afternoon. It wasn't exactly ideal, but it was what they had to do.
Parker woke up that morning next to Daryl, and when she sat up and ran a hand through her hair, she sighed. "I hate camping."
"No, you don't. Just got used to sleepin' in a real bed," Daryl said as he pushed the blanket off himself.
"Yeah, that and not being able to shower every night," Parker agreed as she reluctantly got up. "Harsh reality check that I probably needed. No matter how good things get, the world is still shit."
"Got work to do. With dumbass one and two. Day's about to get a whole lot worse and it's just started." Daryl followed her out of the tent.
"Oh, you've just dropped a bomb on my already bad mood," Parker shoved his shoulder with a small laugh. "Come on, Rick wants to talk to me. Best to not keep him waiting. He's been in a mood these days too."
The pair split off from each other for a while, as Parker asked around to figure out where Rick had run off to so they could talk about the approaching herd, and Daryl left in search of something to eat.
"Hello, dearest brother," Parker called out with fake enthusiasm and a smile as she jogged over to Rick. "Anything interesting happen?" She looked back to see Rosita walking away which meant she missed the daily walker herd announcements. Though she doubted there was much of a chance, or it would have been told to everyone.
"No," Rick replied. "The same as always. There have been more walk-offs recently. Down one more as of today."
"How many?" Parker asked curiously, walking alongside him now, causally looking around as if she were actually trying to seem interested in all of the random activities happening around her.
"Six in the last month," Rick relayed to her, a frustrated sigh escaping as he ran his hand over his beard.
"Saviors?" Parker took a wild guess. The people who had 'volunteered' from the Saviors had all been dropping like flies since they were forced out of their precious Sanctuary and forced to do some real work. Having lost six of them in the last month? It didn't come as a shock. With a nod, it earned a less than surprised scoff. "Any idea on where they're going?"
"It doesn't matter," Rick told her with another sigh. "We have more important things to worry about. Are you going to help on the bridge?" Rick questioned her, nodding towards the construction crew on the bridge.
