*Sofia pov*
The days after Miles birth carried on almost as usual, we offered in turns to babysit Ethan for a couple of hours a day so Carly and Ryan would have some time with just the baby, we brought them prepped meals to make them do as less and they could and make them feel loved and comfortable, letting them have time to adjust as a new family of four.
It's now two weeks after, and they're doing so good, as expected Ethan reacted very good at seeing his baby brother and we're all so happy about it. This Sunday actually we're gonna have the first family lunch all together, since his birth, at Lisa's.
Today is Thursday and on my lunch break I have a routine appointment with Dr. Morgan and then back to work and home for a nice evening with my two favorite people and dog. "You'll be fine with me living a little earlier?" "Don't worry Sofia I've got it all handled!" "I know you do I wanted to make sure, I don't want you to tire yourself out too much tho" "It's fine!" "You're a sweetheart!" I tell her as I put away new books that came in earlier Chris is gonna pick me up and drive me there cause my car is at the mechanic right now and then we're grabbing lunch together before he brings me back and goes to a meeting. My mom has Jade today so once he'll be done with his meeting he's gonna pick her up from her and get home so he can cook dinner for us.
"See you later!" Sam says waving us off "Bye!" "Jade pediatrician appointment is on Monday right?" Chris asks as we drive to the doctor office "11.30 on Monday morning, yes" "Good" As we drove there we just tried to decide what to eat at lunch and settled down for some KFC cause it's been a while since we got that and now we're waiting for them to call my name. As we were waiting we quietly talked about Chris's schedule in the near future cause he'll be filming a new Captain America movie in two weeks so we talked more about that and when I plan to go and visit him bringing Jade and Sam with me so she can also see Sebastian.
"Mrs. Evans?" "See you in a bit" I say kissing his lips before standing up and following the nurse into Dr Morgan's office "Good to see you again Sofia, how are you doing?" "Hi, good! How about you?" "Pretty good myself thank you!" We start with a blood sample and then he lets me get on the bed for a routine check ultrasound. "Your period has gone back to normal, as much as it can be normal with PCOS?" "Yes it's back to normal, I'm always trying to eat as healthy as I can, although I have to confess Chris and I are getting KFC for lunch..." "Oh that's fine, you don't have to be on a strict diet like your husband..." "True..." We keep making small talk as he proceeds with the ultrasound. "Sofia..." "Yes?" I say looking up at his face "is something wrong?" "There's something we need to discuss..." As soon as those words leave his mouth worry feels my body "It's about my health...something isn't right, right?" "Yes. Would you like me to call Chris?" "Please..." I manage to choke out, I can already feel tears brimming my eyes but I try to remain calm, we don't know what it is he needs to talk about so deep breaths...
When I see Chris come in I feel his worry immediately. He comes to sit next to me and kisses my head a few times lovingly "Tell us doc..." I say "While doing your ultrasound I noticed...two masses" he says "one in each of your ovaries..." "God..." I hear Chris whisper under his breath "Cancer?" I ask timidly "Could be, but we won't know for sure until the blood tests results come in. I'm gonna put a rush on this and I'll make sure to call you on Saturday, you can either come here and I'll find you a space or we can do it over the phone. Whichever you prefer..." "I uhm...you can call doc. You're already so busy we don't want to make it worse for you" I say "It wouldn't be a problem, but if the call is what you prefer I'll do that" "Thanks" Chris and I both say "I know this won't be easy but try not to think about it to much, we still don't know for sure, take things as they come, I'll cleft you back on Saturday" he says squeezing both our hands "Bye doc"
The car ride was rather silent, I told Chris I didn't want to stop by KFC cause I wasn't hungry anymore so since I still had time before having to go back to work he drew us home. As soon as I got in and my eye landed on Jade's toys my knees buckled and I fell on the floor. Chris was right by my side, picked me up and walked upstairs to our bedroom where he laid us both on the bed and hugged me as tight as he could to his warm body. He whispered sweet nothings in my ear for about half an hour till the crying stopped and I looked up at him seeing his cheeks also stained with tears. "Whatever this is, we're gonna get through it together. No matter how big..." he says against my lips "Told you I was broken..." I say remembering the conversation we had a few months ago "You're not baby, not at all my love. Life just happens to throw shit at us. I'm here and I'll always be here, fighting with you, not leaving you alone, not for a second. In sickness and in health remember?" "Yeah, I love you so much Chris" "I love you too baby" he says pressing a kiss to my head "so much more than you know"
