62 - The call

*Chris pov*

It's now November and the crispy air outside has made an appearance, Sofia and I both love this season and not only cause all of the festivities, we just love to watch the leaves change color and fall to the ground.

We're organizing the holidays, Thanksgiving will be at Georgeta, while Christmas will be at ma's and New year either at our house or Sebastian's.
"Is she sleeping?" I ask when Sofia comes into the kitchen where I just put away my phone after talking with my mom.
"Yup, dogs are with her"
"Ok, what do you want to do?" I ask before I hear my phone ringing
"You'll answer to that, while I pick a movie?"
"Ok!"
I take my phone out of my pocket and look at who's calling
"Hold that thought...you have to answer too..."
"Why?"
"It's Sienna, the social worker at the adoption center"
"Oh! Answer her!" She says and I laugh

"Hello this is Chris"
"Good morning Mr Evans, how are you?"
"We're good thanks, you're on speaker my wife's here. How are you?"
"I'm ok thanks. Good I wanted to talk to you both"
"We're listening" Sofia says
"I'm calling for a possible placement. I know you said one kid aged zero to 15, I'm calling you cause you're the first on the list and it's worth a shot, you can say no if you think it's not right for you at this moment"
"Ok..."
"I've got two kids, boys, they're siblings and we'd hate to separate them. They're African American, the oldest one is DeAndre and he's almost 12 while Mateo is 9 months old. They have no family left and they've been in the system for 9 months, almost right after Mateo was born. They have been recently moved to us from Chicago. They have no family left, bio dad killed mom and then committed suicide, there's no other family members left. DeAndre has been in and out of foster homes and did not have a good relationship with either of them. He's caring, kind and intelligent and he loves helping others, if it's us workers or the other kids and he loves Mateo to bits, and Mateo is a happy baby. Again I know this is not what you put yourself up for, it's ok to say no but since you were at the top of the list I had to call. If your answer is no I'll call the next family and it's totally ok"
"Wow..." I say looking at Sofia
"I uh...can we talk about it and call you in like 10 minutes?"
"Oh sure! You take all the time you need, I know it's not an easy decision"
"Thank you Sienna"

Putting down the phone on the table Sofia spent a few moments looking at each other.
"I mean..."Sofia starts
"It's not what we thought but would it be so bad?"
"No..."
"I mean this kids had been refused all his life and he's almost 12..."
"Yeah everyone knows that as a kid grows older it's less likely they get adopted..."
"Exactly. We're a good team and we have a good family that helps us. I think we can do it. These boys need a loving home and family"
"I agree with you Chris...should we call her back?"
"Yup"
I smile as I dial Sienna's number and wait for her to answer me
"Hello again..."
"Hi"
"Chris and I talked and we'd like to proceed with the process of adoption to DeAndre and Mateo"
"Oh I'm so glad! I know these boys will be cared for properly"
"Thanks"
"I'd like to have you here with me to go over details and the things we still need to do and meet the kids"
"Sure, is tomorrow too soon?" I ask
"No, tomorrow at three?"
"Perfect!"
"Thank you Sienna"
"Have a good day!"

The next day after we got ourselves and Jade ready and we drove to the center and met with Sienna.
"Ok so this is done, your house has been checked over already when you got in the program so the only thing to do now is meeting the boys and schedule some time to spend together"
"Great"
"I'll go call them"
"Did you tell DeAndre who I am?"
"We did, he likes marvel movies, he's excited to meet you both"
"We'll wait here" Sofia says
As we were waiting I picked up Jade and started to bounce her n my knees making her laugh.
"Go in DeAndre" we hear Sienna saying so we turned around in our chairs smiling as we see the young boy walking in followed by Sienna with Mateo in her arms.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you DeAndre" Sofia says "I'm Sofia" she says extending her hand to him
"Hi" he says quietly shaking her hand
"And I'm Chris"
"Hi"
We both smile at him and Sienna invites him to sit wherever he wants and he takes place next to Sofia while Sienna also hands her Mateo who looks at us curiously.
"And you must be little Mateo" I say tickling his belly. He rolls interest on Jade that is still sitting on my legs.
"And this is Jade, she's 14 months old" Sofia says
"She's cute" DeAndre says leaning in to take one of her hands in his.

We talk more with both Sienna and DeAndre and set a few dates in the following two weeks one where we'll be spending time with both boys here and three more where we'll be spending time with them in our house, two of which without Sienna's supervision.

Once we said goodbye we got back home and the next day that was a Sunday so we had our usual family lunch we told them about our news and they all were very excited.
We can't wait to see how things progress!
