i don't do what i thought, i take the blade from my phone case and place it in my tin. the tin no one knew i still had. it had a couple bandaids, glass shards, a sleeve of sleeping pills, old blades and a small perfume roller in it. i close the tin and shove it into my pocket.

it rattled as i walked but i walked straight to lizzie stopping jus a step out of her personal bubble. she raised her eyebrow in concern and i sighed. passing it to her. i knew if i kept it in my room i would have done something. she opened it and her breath caught in her throat.

"thank you" she said two words that told me i did the right thing. "i'm proud of you for this decision" she pulled me into a tight hug. i hugged her back just as tight. it didn't change the fact that i still wanted to do it.

"can i go on a run?"
"yeah honey, be back before dark" i nodded and went to get changed.

when i left the house i ran and didn't stop. i kept going. i did laps of the lakes before continuing to the next. i pushed my body further and further till i made it to the other side of town on the main road. i stopped to look around for a minute before deciding on my path home. someone else was running so i started walking till they passed cause it's awkward to start running in the middle of the path.

the girl ran passed me before stopping. "y/n?" of course it was lily. it's like the universe was trying to push us together or maybe it's just coincidence.

"hey what are you doing here"
"i usually run from my house to the diner for dinner then catch the bus back, dad works late and they do a really good burger" she said pointing to the diner i had just ran passed. "care to join me?" she asked and i hesitated for a second before nodding.

i was twitchy. i felt like i needed to run still. we sat across from eachother in a booth and a lady came over with a smile.

"lily your usual?" she asked with a smile.
"if you wouldn't mind linda" she said a wide grin on her face.
"and for you?"
"can i just have a large coke no sugar"
"we only have pepsi max is that alright?" i nodded i never really cared about the difference.

lily had a wondering look in her eye i could tell she's starting to notice a pattern. maybe i should eat something to get her off my back.

the waitress turned to leave my i spoke up. "um actually could i have whatever lily's having" i said not having time to read the menu.

"yeah darl i get those to the kitchen" she walked away.

"i hope you order something good" i said looking back to the blonde.

"oh don't worry it's delicious" she smiled and we fell into an easy conversation my stomach started to growl in response.

my phone started to ring and i answered it cause it was lizzie. "hey honey you coming back from your run soon? i just started making dinner"

"im getting dinner at the diner with lilly we ran into eachother on our runs" she requested to facetime and i accepted it showing her we were in fact in a diner.

"okay honey, text me when you're done i don't want you walking home in the dark" she said and i agreed saying goodbye and ending the call.

our food finally arrived and my stomach tightened at the amount of food. but lily kept the conversation going almost like she knew i needed a distraction. she talked about her family i talked about mattie.

"yeah i was really scared he was gonna be an annoying little kid when i met him but he's so cute" i laughed eating another chip.

"you mean when he was born you thought he was annoying?"
"oh no mattie's my step brother, he was my step mums kid"

she nodded and we kept talking. my eyes drifted around the restaurant and i was working my way through the meal well. the bell by the door rung and my heart stopped. the woman looked around before her eyes locked with mine. a look of recognition went over her face before it turned up with disgust.

she came marching over here before i could do anything and slapped me across the face.
"woah! lady what's your issue" lily stood up.

"you stay out of this" my mother turned to her before her attention went straight back to me.
"you ruined my life! your father ruined my life-"

"you're not doing this here get out go" it was the same waitress from before. "don't come in here hitting my customers"

"you do not tell me what to do, this piece of shit her is my daughter and i can do whatever the fuck i want to her"

"now maam you need to lower your tone and not use that language otherwise i'm calling the police"

my mum grabbed me by my jumper pulling me out of the booth. lily stood up grabbing me by my waist to pull me behind her. i know she didn't know the situation but anyone could tell this bitch is crazy.

"no fuck all of you, fuck this fucking town" she flipped a couple chairs "and most of all fuck you and your pathetic father" she said finally leaving. i am so glad the diner was almost empty.

"i'm sorry you had to witness that" i said to lily who was breathing a little heavier. scared maybe.

"wait so is miss olsen even your mother? or is that your mother?"
"miss olsen is my mum yes, she adopted me after like everything happened. that woman here however is the one who walked out on me when i was a kid" i explained briefly.

i pulled an extra 20 out of my pocket and handed it to the waitress. "i'm sorry for causing a scene" i apologised also paying for mine and lily's meals.

"honey im sorry for you" she grabbed my hand.

lily followed me out of the diner and i wanted to cry. her hand gently fell into mine and she squeezed it a few times. the feeling grounded me and i took in a shaking breath. i felt like i owed her an explanation now that's she's had to go and witness my mother.

"everyone's got skeletons in their closet, you don't need to let them all out, halloween is months away" she joked and i smiled.
