Flashback from the end of the last chapter:
"He might be able to prevent your banishment, but it won't be free. You'll pay for this one way or another," Stephanie said seriously as she explained, but she looked at everyone once. The group waited a while until Mr Hornsby returned with Mercer, whereupon John left, even though it was not voluntarily.
Now:
Some time later, it was decided that Eugene, Princess, and Ezekiel would help eliminate walkers, but Stephanie would also help since she had helped them get access to the radio. Right now, Stephanie, Ezekiel, Eugene, and Princess were helping eliminate walkers, while Yumiko and Sophie had no idea what was going on. Yumiko was in a conversation with someone who was talking about Yumiko's talent and that the Commonwealth could use her as a good lawyer, but Yumiko simply said that she didn't plan on staying long. "Perhaps you'll reconsider after you meet Mrs. Milton," came the calm tone from the man speaking to Yumiko, whereupon Yumiko looked at the man, while a moment of silence passed between the two. "I'd rather see my friends," Yumiko said in a serious tone, while she looked sharply at the man before standing up. "Could someone please take me to your workplace and school?" Yumiko said a little louder as she stood up and walked to the door. "You broke the law. Mr. Hornsby arranged for you to earn your freedom," the man suddenly said as he explained to Yumiko what had happened to Ezekiel, Princess, and Eugene. "What?" Yumiko then asked in a rather indignant tone as she turned to the man. "The two men and the woman violated the law, but it was decided that they can earn their freedom by cleaning buildings for future expansion," the man then explained again in a calm yet serious tone. "And what are they cleaning them from?" Yumiko asked in a skeptical tone. "The dead," came the man's short reply. "Well, so you're removing Walker for days, weeks, or maybe even months? And I'm expected to provide legal services for them?" Yumiko asked in a similarly skeptical tone as she continued to look at the man. "For Mrs. Milton and her cabinet," the man added as he answered Yumiko's question, to which Yumiko only sighed in annoyance before sitting down again and speaking. "Then I'd like to speak to you." Immediately, please," Yumiko said seriously, but now somewhat calmly after she had sat down. "That will be difficult. Mr. Hornsby has other ideas about the schedule," the man replied, and then there was silence as the two just looked at each other. "You can't see her now, but I can arrange a meeting with Mrs. Pamela Milton later." came it from the man, to which Yumiko agreed in the end. Once everything was cleared up, she went to the door. After Yumiko stood up, but before she opened the door, she turned to the man again. "Princess, Ezekiel and Eugene have broken the law, but what about Sophie?" Yumiko asked, now even more seriously, when she noticed that the man had only talked about Princess Ezekiel and Eugene, but hadn't mentioned Sophie. "Except for the little one, the teenager. She hasn't done anything," the man added, to which Yumiko nodded. "So I'll find her in the city?" Yumiko asked, now skeptical. "Theoretically, she should be at school. She's an asylum seeker like you, but she's still a child, so we'll be a bit more considerate," came the man as he explained what was wrong with Sophie. Yumiko nodded and left the room. When she left the building, she thought about where she could best find Sophie because Yumiko was desperate that Sophie would just go to the school because firstly, Sophie had never been to school before and secondly, Sophie wouldn't just listen to people she didn't even know. Yumiko was walking through the city when she saw Sophie in front of a shop, more precisely a music shop but actually Yumiko should have guessed that because she knew how much Sophie loved music. Especially since Tara once brought Sophie a walkman with headphones and a few cassette tapes that Tara had found outside on a mission. But when Yumiko got a little closer, she saw Sophie arguing with another teenager, a boy about a year older than Sophie. "First of all, I'm not weird, and secondly, if I were allowed to leave this place, I would have been by now, believe me," Sophie said in a cold but serious tone, just staring at the boy coldly after he had told Sophie that she was weird, that she was there without her parents, i.e., that she was in the Commonwealth without Rosita.

"Oh yes, you are weird. I mean, first of all, you're an asylum seeker and then you say you don't want to be here and on top of that you're standing here staring into the music store like someone who's never seen a store before." came the skeptical but also mocking comment from the boy as he looked at Sophie while he spoke, while Sophie's expression changed from cold to normal as she looked at him. "I thought the people here would be okay and that I might be able to become friends with someone my age, maybe even become friends with you since I'd seen you before and to be honest, I actually thought you were cool," came the calm but also slightly disappointed reply from Sophie as she looked at the boy who just laughed. "Friends, us? Never. I'm not friends with any red fox, just look at you with your orange hair, nobody here has hair, besides you look like someone who's killed a lot of people and I don't want murderers as friends" came the laughing and mocking reply from the boy before he walked away, whereupon Sophie watched the boy leave but Sophie had a hurt and disappointed look in her eyes as she looked down.

"Hey, you're not weird," Yumiko said gently after she went over to Sophie and placed a hand on her shoulder, seeing how hurt and sad Sophie was about the boy's words. "Sure," Sophie said sarcastically, briefly looking at Yumiko and then away. "No, seriously, you're great. You have your heart in the right place. Without you, many people would have died already, and you're strong. Where others have given up, you keep going, and look, you're here with me, Eugene, and the other two," Yumiko said gently, hoping to cheer Sophie up a bit. Sophie simply nodded, but now Yumiko's expression became more serious. "But I was looking for you for a completely different reason," Yumiko said seriously, but still in a calm tone. Sophie looked at her, somewhat confused. "What's wrong?" Sophie asked seriously, noticing that something was wrong. "Eugene was arrested when he sneaked into a room at the train station where there was a radio and talked to Rosita and Adrian. Princess and Ezekiel were also arrested because they helped in some way," Yumiko explained seriously, to which Sophie sighed and cursed a little. Yumiko explained to Sophie what the punishment for Eugene and the others was, but also that Yumiko was trying to help them because Yumiko was a lawyer. After talking for a while, Sophie suddenly looked away because she noticed that one of the guards was walking straight towards Yumiko and Sophie, whereupon Yumiko looked too, neither of them having a good feeling about it.
