(Y/N) had an inkling of a feeling that because no one from the task force was reported as suspicious by the FBI, they would return back to the United States without so much as a problem. As for Light, he wouldn't kill anyone since he didn't know either his stalker's name or face, and said stalker wasn't exactly stalking him anymore.

And just like she thought, she was right.

It made her wonder how that would impact the progression of events: more specifically, if the avoided deaths of the FBI wouldn't drive police officers away from the Kira case as it did the last time. The very reason the task force was shrunken down to the size it was, was because of the innate and tangible fear the officers held at the thought of Kira killing them as well.

    So, she wondered.

But, wondering didn't get her far since she had no way of knowing what L was thinking.

But as the days passed and more criminals ended up dying with no significant change in the investigation, it seemed as if the deaths of the FBI agents originally had only strengthened the police officers' resolve to leave the case earlier rather than later. And now, due to how large and intimidating Kira seemed—as if an omniscient and god-like being was passing judgement on the world—many treaded cautiously around the subject of the killer. Naturally, that meant little wanted anything to do with the inspection of Kira.

    So, the task force shrank.

And with that, (Y/N) knew that it wouldn't be long before L showed his face.

    It excited her.

When she had first watched the show, she had found herself so entranced by his introduction and how well he had been able to pry open the mind of Light even when he hadn't met him in the first place. L was an enigma that she liked exploring when watching the anime, which meant that his death impacted her that much more. She would like to avoid such an ending if possible.

Settling her thoughts, (Y/N) smoothened out her uniform before walking out of her house and locking the door behind her.

"Good morning, (L/N)-san," Light greeted, having been waiting for her as usual.

"Morning," she yawned.

"Tired?"

"Yeah. I didn't get much sleep last night."

"Oh? Why not?"

"Just couldn't."

"Hopefully you won't fall asleep in class again," Light mentioned with a teasing grin on his face, his brown eyes highlighted with a type of lighthearted emotion that (Y/N) almost wasn't sure was real. "The teacher was quite upset when she caught you dozing in the middle of her lecture."

"It was only one time," she scoffed. "And besides, her lectures are always boring."

"I cannot deny that."

"Exactly," she grinned smugly. "I'm always right when it comes to these kind of topics, Yagami-san. It would do you best not to forget that."

"I guess so," he chuckled softly as he slid his hands into his pockets, growing silent as he seemed to be contemplating something. "By the way... would you mind if we dropped formalities? We've been friends for a couple months now, yet are still distant. Is there a specific reason for that?"

(Y/N)'s brows raised.

Now that was something unexpected.

"Not particularly, no," she answered with a tilt of her head. "I've just never heard you refer to someone in such a close manner. I just naturally assumed you weren't fond of doing so."

"I never said that," Light frowned.

"Didn't you?"

"No."

"Looks like she thought you had a stick up your ass, Light," Ryuk chuckled as he floated above the two, the chains around his body clanking with his movements and catching in the light. "Not that she isn't wrong. It seems like all you ever do is study and write names in the Death Note. It's kinda boring during those times. Get a hobby."

Light's jaw tightened.

He so very wished to snap back at the Shinigami, but again, he had to refrain due to (Y/N)'s presence. He was starting to wonder if Ryuk did that on purpose, hypothesizing that it was highly likely.

"Then I can call you 'Light' from now on?" (Y/N) sounded out his name, the boy finding that when she did so, a jolt ran down his spine. "To be honest, I always found that name to be quite intriguing. It's spelled with the kanji for moon yet read as light. It always made me wonder why, and what kind of background was attached to your name."

"Why did you never ask?"

"I'm not sure."

"Well, I'm sure you'll be disappointed to know that my name wasn't decided by any special reason," Light gave a small shrug as he thought his answer over. "My parents just liked it, I guess."

"That's nice, though."

"What is?"

"Parents actually caring about what they name their kids," (Y/N) murmured, her eyes glazing over as she thought of her life raised by her stepfather since her mother died, leaving her in his rather wretched care. "I'm not sure why my name was decided on, either. I didn't know my mom, too, so I wonder if she even cared? Or, if my name was just something random she thought of in that moment."

"I like your name," Light was quick to interject, pulling her from her fantasy.

"Do you?"

"Yes," he nodded. "I'm not sure any other name on the planet would be able to suit you as your current one does now."

"You're quite the smooth talker, aren't you?" (Y/N) laughed, finding his words somewhat contradictory with his entire character—his character that didn't exactly empathize or even want to become close to another. "Do you really believe that my name is that great? That it's the only name I could ever possess?"

"Yes..." Light's eyes lidded. "Yes, I do..."

Their conversation dwindled at that, the girl feeling somewhat puzzled by his words.
