"Hey, Ryuzaki," (Y/N) poked the man's arm as she gazed up blankly at the ceiling, her eyes glazed over from having rewatched so many surveillance videos of all the times Kira had been most active. "Considering we've watched these hundreds of times, why don't we go on a walk?"

"I'm busy," was all he replied.

"It seems like you're always busy," she hummed. "Is that why you don't sleep?"

"I told you—I only sleep when I feel like it."

"Ah. You're right."

"Of course I am."

"That's pretty cocky," she chuckled softly, not noticing the way L's eyes slid over to watch her. "Well, considering you're the world's best three detectives, it's not surprising."

"Oh, you know that?"

"I connected the dots pretty early after meeting you," she smirked.

"I guess I should have known."

Silence settled between them save for the rerunning and rewinding and playing and fast forwarding of the surveillance videos that L was receding. All members of the Task Force save for them had gone considering it was now after midnight and L had ushered them to take a break. Light had wanted to stay considering (Y/N) was, but at the urging of his father to leave with him, he reluctantly and begrudgingly followed.

So, it was just the two of them.

    And (Y/N) was bored.

But at the same time, she didn't want to leave.

"Come on, just go on a walk with me," she mentioned again, rolling her neck around so she could look at the detective, her gaze roving over his messy raven hair and pale skin that contrasted so violently with each other yet made for a handsome image all the same. "It'll be a date where we could get some much needed fresh air after being cramped up in this room all day. Besides, you said it yourself that only I and the Task Force know you're L, so, what's the danger?"

The man froze.

Literally—it didn't look like he even blinked.

He never thought of dating, much less having a relationship with anyone, whether they be friends or lovers, male or female. Yet as soon as (Y/N) said that one little word, his mind flooded with images of holding her in his arms, of kissing her, of loving her. In technicality, he never felt much of an attraction to anyone, but when thinking of her eyes tinted with mischief, of her teasing smile, he became all too aware of their close proximity.

This is unusual.

My temperature is rising and my heart is beating faster; is this... attraction?

    Towards (Y/N)?

He glanced at the girl awaiting his reply.

"What would we do on this... 'walk?'" He finally questioned, keeping his expression neutral as he tried to to calm his strangely erratically beating heart. "No matter how you look at it or how little of people know I am actually L, if I go out, there's a high chance I could be killed by Kira."

"Oh, come on!" (Y/N) laughed, rolling her eyes at his words before leaning in even closer. "How would Kira or even the Second Kira know that? Isn't that why they wanted you to reveal yourself in TV?"

"There's still the possibility."

"You went to college and you were fine," she shrugged. "What's different now?"

L looked away.

The difference was how she said it.

A date.

He was sure that she hadn't really put much thought into the word since she had said it so casually, but at the same time, he wanted to believe that she did. For no matter how much he tried to deny it, a part of him wanted to agree with her and leave the investigation alone for a day since he was only given more questioned than answers. But, as always, the more logical side of him told him to refute her advances.

It didn't work.

"...fine," L muttered, rubbing a strand of his dark hair between his thumb and pointer finger.

"Wait, really?"

"Let's just go before I change my mind," he said as he stood up with a sigh.

She smirked.

Nice.

The two exited the hotel to begin walking along the sidewalk that led away from the building, L hunching his shoulders and shoving his hands in his pockets whilst glancing around with suspicion cast in his dark gaze. It was so late that hardly anyone was out, and the only ones that were, were in their cars speeding past them. Yet the detective was as alert as always, never once letting down his guard, the very fact making (Y/N) sigh.

Oh, well.

At least we're out of the hotel.

"I'm guessing you felt more safe at To-Oh than you do here?" She chuckled softly.

"It was an enclosed perimeter with only the select individuals around who were granted entry," L muttered, glancing up to meet her (E/C) eyes, watching as the wind blew strands of her (H/C) hair across her face. "This is not."

"I understand," she looked away, not even a moment later L doing the same.

"You do?"

"Well, when I was younger and under the care of my stepfather, I was taught not to like open spaces," she murmured, her eyes lidding as thoughts of the horrid man and his teachings flooded her mind. "It meant a more chances of being caught—of being singled out. Of course, when it was crowded, it was better since you could blend into the crowd, but at the same time, you were so easily overwhelmed."

"Considering the population where you last lived, that's not too surprising."

Her brows raised.

"What?" He caught her look.

"You even studied the population of where I last lived?" (Y/N) smirked, finding that detail a bit amusing. "What else do you know?"

"Everything."

She stopped, startled.

Stopping and turning with her, his seemingly vacant eyes boring into her own, he stated quite clearly, "I know everything on file about you, but still, it's not enough. I want to know even more since I find myself so captivated by your existence."

She blinked at his words.

Ryuk, who had been behind her the entire time, could only cackle at the new development.
