"God, why is studying for this exam almost harder than the actual exam?" (Y/N) groaned as she sat beside Light later that same evening in his room after speaking with Rem, flicking her pencil around her fingers as she pretended to be struggling with a problem—in reality, she could solve it quite easily, but she didn't need the boy to know that. "Light, give me some of your mental power."

"I'm sure I have enough to spare for the both of us," he responded cockily and with a smile.

    She scoffed at his answer.

"What?" He hummed at her reaction.

"You've sure gotten a lot more confident further into this year," she replied as she gave him a pointed look and smirk, then rolling his eyes when he only shrugged, as if saying that she was right. "Especially since L himself approached you to work on the case. Albeit because he suspected you as Kira, but even then, isn't that an honor in itself? He also said it himself that this case is the most elusive and interesting one he's been assigned."

"I'm both insulted and flattered, yeah," Light leaned back in his chair as he rolled his eyes up to the ceiling in thought.

    "But...?"

"But, more so, I believe it's a good learning experience for me since I am studying to become a detective one day," he finished with a flourish of his hands, giving her a flat grin.

    She chuckled.

    It's ironic though, isn't it?

A mass murderer as law enforcement.

Then again, most are often drawn to positions of power—a police officer being one of them.

Tuning back in to her study session, she then split her attention between that and the plan that she had come up with not even a few hours ago when speaking with Rem. It was one that was quite risky, but it was a risk she would be willing to take if it meant eliminating Misa as a suspect—for further down the road, it meant that L would also live. However, for such a plan to work, she needed to speak with Ryuk.

And as if fate were on her side, an opportunity presented itself when Light excused himself.

    She turned to face Ryuk.

At first, he didn't believe that she could see him. But now, there was blatant proof right in front of his eyes, and he couldn't help but cackle. This girl was far more interesting than he initially thought.

"We don't have long, so I'm going to make this quick, Ryuk," she started with a gesture of her hand, forcing all of his attention onto her since everything about her and her interactions with Light was so intriguing to him. "And before you ask, yes, I know of your existence and the fact that Light is Kira. I've known from the very beginning since I touched a piece of the Death Note after Light did, and have been carrying it with me wherever I go."

"Well, I certainly didn't expect this," Ryuk laughed again in that raspy tone of his. "It seems Light's been the one in the dark this entire time."

"And that's not the only thing he's in the dark about," she continued.

"Oh, really?"

"Yes, for I've uncovered the second Kira's identity," (Y/N) explained, watching as Ryuk's expression change into one that was both amused and mildly impressed. "And I don't want for the original nor second one to meet the other. So, considering your insatiable thirst for both apples and entertainment, I'm proposing a deal to you that I'm sure you can't resist."

"And what kind of deal is that?"

"A kind where I need to you to somehow get Light to willingly give up the Death Note," she smirked, propping her head up with her hand. "Drop it back on the ground, and then I'll pick it up. It's as simple as that, really."

"Simple?" Ryuk laughed. "You should know Light would never give up that notebook unless he already has a well-thought of plan before doing so."

"Oh, yes, I know."

"Then why propose such a ridiculous plan?"

"Because I'll know you'll go through with it either way," (Y/N) shrugged.

    Ryuk stared at her.

And then his lips split into an eerie grin.

He always knew he liked this girl, and it seemed he hadn't made a mistake in thinking so. He then watched as (Y/N) acted as if nothing had happened when Light stepped back into the room, finding her acting skills to be on par—if not, even better—with the boy's own. And just as the clock struck ten-thirty, she decided that it was time she head home, having not meant to intrude so late. However, for Light, he gladly welcomed her presence, yet forced himself to reel in such emotions as he walked her to the front door to bid her goodbye.

"Well, don't you look disappointed?" Ryuk cackled as he observed Light trailing (Y/N)'s figure.

"Wouldn't any God be disappointed if his Goddess left his side for so long?" Light exhaled as he closed the front door so he could ascend the steps back up to his room.

"Looks like someone got attached."

"Why do you suddenly seem so interested in my and (Y/N)'s relationship?" Light turned to stare at the Shinigami with narrowed eyes, a subtle warning written with the dark hues that the other could only laugh at since it was so amusing. "You're not going to answer me, Ryuk?"

"You don't need to be concerned, all I'm wondering about is if you'll ever tell her that you're Kira."

"And why would I do that?"

"If you're as attached as I think you are, I'm sure that it will happen one day," Ryuk began with a wave of his hand, the chains wrapped around his waist clinking as he then settled back into his spot now that (Y/N) was no longer there. "And who knows? When that happens, maybe you'll even willingly give up the Death Note to her as a way to share your power as 'Gods?' Wouldn't that be something?"

Silence descended between them.

Then Light opened his mouth to say, "Why would I willingly give up the Death Note to (Y/N)?"

Ryuk had covered his ears for the first part.

His grin turned maniacal.

Hehe.

Got ya.
