The year passed by quickly.During that time, neither L nor Light wanted to accept the fact that (Y/N) both had feelings for them. But then again, neither wanted to be the one to live without her, or be the one having to watch her be with another that wasn't them. So, begrudgingly, they allowed three-person dates—only known to them, of course—along with threesomes—L and Light only had their attention on her, and never each other because they refused to acknowledge the other's mere existence there.
She learned many things because of that.
L was more possessive.
He liked to watch her.
He liked to observe her reactions to certain things, her expressions when he pleased her, everything.
And just when he found out what she liked, he continued doing it over and over again in an almost obsessive manner. What's more, he liked to hold her close to him so she couldn't stray from his sight, much to dismay of Light. Because for Light, he would monopolize (Y/N), in a way. He loved nothing more than to sit her on his lap and whisper pleasant nothings and praises into her ear as he toyed with her hair or kissed down her neck. Of course, though, it was only in bed when such talk turned degrading.
While the three made sure to keep their rather polyamorous relationship a secret, others still viewed their odd dynamic as strange. This was because even though L and Light weren't obvious about their hatred for one another publicly, it was not hard to see their affection for (Y/N).
The idea of two men having to share one women wasn't something common.
It was rare, if not, no longer existing.
But it was for them.
(Y/N) forced them to act pleasant around each other, at least when she and others were around, considering the fact that no one else knew about her relationship with either of them. Currently, she was sitting at her desk in her house while Light lay on her bed and L crouched on a small stool next to her. And although she wished for them to not act so hostile towards each other, it was an impossible ask, both of them merely glaring at one another whenever making eye contact.
She wanted to amend that.
Propping her head head, she flicked through the book that she had been reading, now too consumed with other thoughts to properly process the words that she was staring at.
I know that if they keep acting like this...
One of them will kill the other.
And to be honest, the whole reason I involved myself was to avoid that.
I have to do something.
But just as that thought glanced through her mind, a sudden wave of dizziness slammed into her like a wave, she having to lean on the edge of her desk to stop herself from falling out of her chair. Immediately, both L and Light exchanged a glance, and this time, it wasn't one born out of hatred. Rubbing his feet together in an anxious tick, L bit his thumb. Light merely narrowed his eyes as he continued staring at (Y/N).
Nothing was said.
Even though it was clear that something was wrong, neither man jumped to her aide.
There was a reason for that, though.
Both L and Light knew that they would never get along if they both wanted to win the same thing, which was (Y/N) in this instance. However, when seeing how sprawling of a manor that L purchased in the countryside of England, both knew that they would be able to alternate having (Y/N) and her time without the other being present.
It was a perfect solution.
The only problem was figuring out how to get the girl to agree to it.
L and Light decided not to ask.
(Y/N) may have always been one step ahead of the two in terms of her ability to know what they would do next concerning the show, but she failed to see the lengths that they would go to keep her selfishly all to themselves. And as her vision slowly faded to black, her one final thought was wondering just how she had gotten to the point. Not even a moment later, she collapsed to the floor—she was still breathing, just unconscious.
"I guess the drug worked," L murmured after a moment of silence, watching as Light stood up from his spot on the bed to cradle (Y/N) gently in his arms. "It's finally time, then."
"Of course," Light nodded, turning to face the man with the girl limp in his arms. "You've made all the necessary preparations, correct?"
"I'm a very thorough planner, Light," L's frown deepened. "Don't underestimate me."
"I wasn't," Light exhaled as he shook his head. "But if anything goes wrong... needless to say I won't hesitate to kill you. Then again, you'd probably do the same. For we both know that I wasn't the only one who had a hand in Nakashima Rin's death." He watched as the detective's expression remained emotionless, not an ounce of guilt present before he then continued, "Anyways, we better get moving. She'll wake up in a couple hours or so."
L nodded, exiting the room with Light to both enter the car driven by Watari. He didn't question their strange behavior or why (Y/N) was unconscious, he just kept driving.
L bit his nail.
(Y/N)...
You have to understand why we did this. We only want to have you to ourselves, you see, yet you still let your attention wander to other pointless necessities.
So we'll take you far away.
You'll only be able to look at us forever, as we already have towards you.
Staring down at her sleeping and rather peaceful face, his dark eyes bordering on the lines of an unhinged maniac infatuated with her very existence, a slow and haunting smile drew over L's face. Light noticed this, but merely turned his face away and propped his head up on the window sill.
(Y/N)...
Don't hate us for loving you.
