The next morning when Light saw (Y/N) walk into class with dark shadows under her eyes, he knew something had happened. He watched as she then slid into the seat next to him, opened up her textbook to prop it up in front of her, and promptly fall asleep. He set his head in his hand, flicking his pencil in circles absentmindedly as he stared at her.

This is strange...

Just from looking at her I can tell something happened, and I... worry.

It's annoying.

Letting out a small sigh, Light leaned back in his chair and focused his attention on the rest of the lecture. And all throughout the day, he would watch as (Y/N) struggled to focus in class since her eyelids would keep drooping every time she did so. Her sleeping in class didn't mean she was a bad student, for with every assignment and test handed out so far she had aced, but it wasn't usual for her, either.

It made Light suspicious.

And as he walked with her towards the location of the hotel that L stated he would be at, he finally started questioning her.

"(Y/N)?"

"Hm?"

"Did you go somewhere last night?"

"Why?"

"You were sleeping in almost every class today," Light hummed, making it seem as if this were but a passing thought in his mind. "I thought it was maybe because you couldn't sleep again, or that you had stayed up late somewhere else."

"Well, you're right in both aspects," (Y/N) chuckled as she buried her hands deeper into the pockets of her coat. "I couldn't sleep due to various reasons. And knowing I'd likely do better helping L with the investigation rather than tossing and turning at home, I decided to visit him and see what I could do. It was a rather... interesting night."

Light almost reacted.

It would have been a violent one—one where he would demand what had happened incessantly.

But, he was able to refrain.

He didn't think he would be so against the idea of L and (Y/N) becoming close, but he was. It was undeniable that he hated the very idea of it. He could lie and say that it was because he didn't fully trust L considering he did suspect (Y/N) of being Kira. But, it would be a lie all the same.

"I see," Light finally forced out rigidly.

The girl glanced at him.

But she didn't say anything.

Finally, the two arrived at their destination—a rather tall hotel with a light, golden theme that matched well with the color tones of the setting sun. Walking into the simple room where L was currently stationed for the moment, both tugged off their coats and set them down on the backs of two chairs before approaching said detective, along with Soichiro, Mogi, Matsuda, and Aizawa who were all standing beside him staring at a TV.

"Hey, sorry we're late," Light spoke.

"Oh, come in," L turned to face them, his voice taking on a higher tone than usual as his dark eyes bored into (Y/N)'s form—as if silently bringing up the topic of what had happened the night before. "Your timing couldn't be better, actually. We just received a new video message from the second Kira."

(Y/N) froze.

What?

A new message?

But... Misa hasn't even met Light!

Wait...

Is this... Rem coming through for me?

"I believe this is the last one, so, please, take a look," L murmured as he clicked a button on the remote to turn the TV back on, the gaudy 'Kira' font displayed along a white background.

"I've decided to stop searching for Kira," the video declared after a moment of silence. "I've realized now that he would see my actions as unjust, and would advise me against doing anything like that in the future. So, for now, I will only punish criminals that I believe Kira will see as evil. By doing so, I hope that in time, he'll come to see me as an ally. Together, we'll make this world a better place."

The video stopped.

"My, my..." (Y/N) shook her head slowly as she placed a hand on her hip—the other placed on the back of L's chair, something he didn't fail to notice. "Didn't this just get interesting?"

"How so?" L inquired.

"At first, you'd think that Kira and the second Kira have made contact since this one was so adamant on meeting the original, but on closer inspection, that isn't the case," she tapped a finger against her chin as she tried to remember what Light had originally told Misa. "Kira wouldn't be this careless. Not only that, but the second Kira in this video used the words 'he would' and 'I believe Kira will,' etc, etc. These two haven't met—at least, not yet."

"That's true..." L groaned as he picked up one of his pastries and bit into it, licking the glaze off of his fingers after he did so. "But then, why the sudden change of heart?"

"Maybe the second Kira finally got a conscience?" (Y/N) smirked.

Or, in Misa's case, a God of Death.

"Well, if they didn't meet, it would be more advantageous for us," L finished his snack, swallowing the last of the food whilst staring blankly at the black TV screen. "And, this is one less reason to suspect that either Light or (Y/N) is Kira. If one of them were, I don't think this is the message that they would have had the second Kira send us. They would have made the second Kira go through with his plan to have me appear on TV so I would be killed."

"Sorry to interrupt, but if I'm being honest, Ryuzaki, it's almost starting to feel as if you're more so riding on the fact that Light is Kira rather than me," (Y/N) crossed her arms.

    "What makes you say that?"

    "Just a hunch."

"Hm..." L hummed in answer whilst sipping his drink, clearly avoiding the statement as his dark gaze rested on the coffee table.

"Well, Ryuzaki?" Soichiro grunted, folding his arms over his broad chest. "Is this true?"

L continued to stay silent.

Is she hoping to enact some sort of reaction?

    Well...

    She isn't entirely wrong.

I do suspect Light more than her; I have for a very long time, but how could she have known that? I didn't make it obvious or contrived.

But either way... how truly magnificent.

"It's seems that (Y/N) is quite right," L finally replied as he looked. "I apologize for leaving everybody in the dark for so long, but as of now, instead of casting my suspicions on both Light and (Y/N)... it will only be on Light, and I do hope that you won't be quite as angry with me for that, Mr. Yagami."
