Light sat at his desk with (Y/N), books scattered around them since they were studying together as usual. Ryuk was nowhere to be found, the Shinigami having gotten bored enough to say that he would go off and get apples on his own somehow. And as for the rest of the Yagami family, Soichiro was still at work while Sachiko and Sayu were off running errands.

It was just him and (Y/N)—alone.

Sitting so close to her, he could smell the shampoo wafting from her hair.

He didn't understand.

He didn't understand many things, including why he couldn't help but watch her out of the corner of his eye, intrigued by each and every expression that she made—from how calm she looked at times, from the way her brow scrunched when she was concentrating, the way her eyes glimmered when the light hit them just right.

It was irritating how mesmerizing she was.

"Hey, Light? How do I do this one?" (Y/N) then suddenly questioned, leaning closer and making his eyes drop towards her slightly parted lips.

Something was wrong.

Drastically wrong.

Sure, he found (Y/N)'s appearance in and of itself appealing, along with her rather intellectual nature and patterns, but it shouldn't distract him to that extent. As Kira, his only goal should be the eradication of all the filth within the world—he couldn't waste time focusing on such whimsical notions of love and romance.

Yet, there she was.

Whimsical and lovely.

He couldn't take it any more and stood up abruptly, approaching his bed and sitting down, loosening his collar as he felt his face flushing with heat—a reaction totally abnormal to him. He only felt worse when (Y/N), asking what was wrong, sat next to him, her knee brushing against his. The final breaking point was her hand on his shoulder.

He felt a jolt course through him.

He turned to face her.

And ever so steadily, he lifted his hand to cup her face, closing his eyes as his lips drew near hers.

Everything then went dark.

Blinking his eyes open, Light stared at his bland ceiling, wondering what the hell had just happened until he realized he had been dreaming. Sitting up and running a hand through his tangled hair, he continued to question why his subconscious would suddenly give him a dream like that. It didn't make any sense to him, especially when his entire plan when involving himself with (Y/N) was to make sure she fell for him, not the other way around.

But, he still had a dream about her.

A dream about kissing her, no less.

He was glad that the dream was as innocent as that, for he knew just how lewd young men around his age often tended to be.

He let out a low groan.

"What the hell..." he then muttered under his breath before turning at the sound of a knock.

"Hey, Light, it's me," (Y/N)'s voice drifted from the other side of the door. "Are you dressed? Can I come in? We should go to that cafe around the corner; I'm craving their pastries. And I need coffee. Nothing like sugar and caffeine, right?"

"Of course. Give me a moment to change," he replied as he pushed off his covers.

What the hell was that dream?

    It felt so real, too...

As he opened his closet, he couldn't help but touch his lips that still tingled as if he had kissed (Y/N). Her warmth and taste still lingered, and he couldn't help but already feel addicted to such a flavor. It was as if all his life he had been waiting to kiss her. He then abruptly shook his head as his expression tightened, quickly grabbing some casual clothes to thrown on.

I shouldn't be thinking about this now. My priority should be stopping the second Kira.

Light threw open his door.

And there (Y/N) stood, gazing absentmindedly at the pictures on the wall of him and his family while tugging on a strand of her (H/C) hair. She was also dressed pretty casually in black jeans and a white blouse, but the way it complimented and highlighted her figure was almost more than Light could bear at the moment. For he felt if he stared too long, he would start to fantasize about what she would look like without her clothes.

"Ah, looks like you're finally ready," (Y/N) commented with a smile.

"Yeah, sorry to make you wait," he laughed.

    This isn't good.

Whatever it is I feel toward her, whatever interest this may be that made me dream that...

It isn't helping my situation.

And neither is this copycat, if I think about it. He's carless, so it's only a matter of time before he slips up and he's in custody.

And if the police discover the Death Note...

They'll find out I'm the real Kira.

    Taking me away... from (Y/N).

He flinched.

Pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation when finding himself thinking of the girl yet again, he instead tried to focus on where he was currently walking—the cafe. When entering the small shop, Light ordered a plain coffee while (Y/N) ordered her favorite pastry and drink. The boy tried very hard not to look at her, instead propping his head up as he mindlessly stirred his drink.

These trivial emotions are below me, especially when it can affect me and my decisions.

"You okay?" (Y/N)'s voice cut into his thoughts.

"Huh?" Light blinked at her before chuckling softly and taking a sip of his coffee. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Alright," she shrugged.

She wasn't convinced.

But before (Y/N) could even try to find out what caused Loght to intreat so deeply within his mind, her gaze caught on Misa who suddenly arrived and sat down at a table only a few spots away from them. She looked as innocent and pretty as ever with her dyed blonde hair styled up in two side pigtails while her makeup was done perfectly. Mere moments later, she was happily digging into a sundae.

(Y/N)'s eyes were however more drawn to the looming figure that seemed to stand guard by the girl, the Shinigami a rather intimidating sight.

She sighed.

Well, sometimes the people we're looking for are right under our noses.
