"Ugh, I'm exhausted," Misa groaned as she unlocked the door to her apartment and flicked on the low lights that cast shadows all throughout the space, taking one step inside and jolting when finding a strange black notebook on the floor. "Huh? What's this?"

The moment her hand brushed the cover, she fell to the ground, shocked.

    Her memories.

    They all came rushing back.

    (Y/N)... I remember!

You had me give up this notebook for my safety... which means your plan must've worked!

Giggling softly under her breath, Misa blinked when a note fell from the pages of the Death Note, her brows furrowing in confusion. However, as she opened it and saw that it was from (Y/N), the one she had deemed her sister and new family, she could only eagerly read on.

Dear Misa,

By the time you read this letter, you should have remembered everything. I'm sorry that you had to give up your Death Note to me after halving your lifespan, but it was the only thing I could think of to save you and everyone else I care about. As you read this, I currently have no memories of my time with the Death Note as I have given it up to stop my pursuit as Kira. I cannot explain it to you why I have made this decision, but know that it is so we can be a family. When we meet again, casually touch me with a piece of the notebook so I can see Rem, and have her explain to me everything that has happened. If you do this, we will be able to remain sisters for the rest of our lives.

(Y/N)

Blinking, Misa could only clutch the paper to her chest as she stared down at the ground solemnly. She felt saddened at the thought of what brought her and (Y/N) together—the acts of Kira—to suddenly end, but she knew that she would also do anything to help her sister.

"Rem," Misa murmured as she lifted her head up to meet the Shinigami's one eye.

"Yes, Misa?"

"Is this really what (Y/N) wanted?"

"It is."

"Then I will do as she has asked," Misa exhaled softly as she picked herself up and dusted off her frilled, gothic skirt, her eyes sharpening with a type of resolution and determination that made her fists clench. "We need to meet up with (Y/N) right now to tell her everything! I gotta call her! Oh, where's my phone? Here it is!"

The phone rang.

She waited.

"Hello?" (Y/N) finally picked up.

"Hey, (Y/N)!" Misa greeted with a perky lilt to her tone, her red lips curving upwards into a bright smile at being able to talk to the girl. "Are you busy right now? I was hoping we could talk? Maybe chat over a cup of coffee?"

"It's a little late for coffee..."

"Tea, then?"

"Sure," (Y/N) agreed, albeit hesitantly since she wasn't sure what Misa needed.

"Yay!" Misa merely cheered, raising her fist and her foot in the air as a sign of victory. "How about that cafe we went to previously? Can you meet me there in an hour?"

    "That works for me."

"Thanks, (Y/N)! I'll see you, then!" Misa hung up the phone with a happy hum and smile before beginning to root around in her closet for something decent to wear for her night out with her sister, knowing that she would need to look her best considering what she was going to tell her. "Hey, Rem... do you think (Y/N) will be shocked once we tell her that she was Kira? I mean, it's obvious anyone would be, but... there's something about her that makes me think she won't be. Is that crazy?"

"No," Rem shook her head, her skeletal form contracting with the silent breath she took. "I don't think it's crazy at all."

The Shinigami met her own eye in the reflection of Misa's mirror, her frown growing.

    Yes...

She always seems to be one step ahead...

Rem followed Misa to the designated meeting point where they would be speaking with (Y/N), the cafe small and quaint just like the many times that the pair had been there before. Sliding into a booth that was hidden from many peoples view due to the several potted plants around, Misa waited patiently for (Y/N), even going so far as to order two cups of tea and a slice of cake for them to share.

It wasn't long before (Y/N) arrived.

"Sorry I'm a little bit late, Misa," she exhaled softly as she slid into the booth opposite the other girl.

"Oh, it's okay!" Misa perked up.

"Anyways— oh, did you order the tea and cake already? Thank you," (Y/N) smiled as she picked up her cup and took a sip, closing her eyes as the warm drink took the chill right out of her body. "Anyways, like I was saying, what did you want to speak about? I hope it's nothing serious, is it?"

"Well... maybe..." Misa murmured as she took (Y/N)'s hand, a piece of the Death Note brushing against her fingers.

(Y/N)'s gaze slowly drew upwards to Rem.

She blinked.

Wait.

Why am I seeing Rem?

Why is Misa suddenly showing her to me? I realized quite soon that Light no longer possessed Ryuk's Death Note, so... what happened?

Did I... do something?

"You don't seem too surprised," Misa blinked once (Y/N) met her gaze again. "But, you've always been very calm—that's what I like about you, (Y/N)! Anyways, I think it's better that we answer all of your questions, and the most important thing to address is..." Dropping her voice to that of a whisper, she then continued, "...that you were Kira."

(Y/N) inhaled sharply.

Yes...

I remember meeting Misa and... I remember that she doesn't like Light like she did in the anime.

I found it strange, but...

It's true, then.

I changed the plot.

And as both Rem and Misa filled her in on the gaps in her memory that she initially wrote off, (Y/N) tried to hide the smile that threatened to twitch onto her lips. Everything was going exactly as she planned to the exact point.

Everything.

    Everything
