After finishing the lunch, Dai and his friends began to gather their things. Dai decided to go pay the bill and look for Shun. He scanned the restaurant, hoping to catch a glimpse of Shun, but he was nowhere to be found. He approached Taehoon at the counter.
"Hey, Taehoon, have you seen senior?" Dai asked.
Taehoon looked up and smiled. "He left just now."
Dai felt a pang of disappointment. He wanted to see Shun again before leaving. Taehoon noticed the sadness in Dai’s eyes.
"You can meet him if you go now," Taehoon suggested kindly.
Dai's face brightened. "Thanks, Taehoon."
He turned to his friends and said, "I’m leaving first, guys. See you later!"
They waved him off with cheerful goodbyes. Dai quickly got to his car and drove off, scanning the streets for any sign of Shun. After a few minutes, he spotted Shun walking on the sidewalk, lost in thought. Dai honked the horn, causing Shun to look back in surprise.
Dai rolled down the window. "Hey, senior! Want a ride?"
Shun hesitated. "I’ll walk. I don’t want to trouble you."
Dai insisted. "Come on, it’s no trouble at all. Let me drop you off."
After a moment of consideration, Shun nodded and got into the car, though he still seemed a bit hesitant. Dai noticed Shun fumbling with the seat belt and leaned over, their faces almost touching. Shun's cheeks flushed slightly as Dai clicked the seat belt into place.
"Forgot to put on your seat belt," Dai said with a light smile.
Shun looked away, flustered. "Thanks."
As they drove, the car filled with a comfortable silence. Suddenly, Shun remembered overhearing something at the restaurant.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. Happy Birthday, Dai," Shun said.
Dai glanced at him, surprised. "How did you know?"
"I overheard your friends talking about it while I was serving the dishes," Shun explained.
Dai smiled brightly. "Thanks, Shun. That means a lot."
They drove on, exchanging occasional glances and small smiles. Soon, Shun pointed ahead. "That’s my apartment up there."
Dai pulled over and stopped the car. "Here we are."
Shun unbuckled his seat belt and turned to Dai. "Thank you for the ride."
Dai nodded. "The pleasure is mine."
As Shun got out, he said, "Bye, and see you on Monday."
"See you on Monday," Dai replied, watching as Shun walked into his apartment building.
Dai waited until Shun was safely inside before driving home. As he navigated through the familiar streets, he couldn’t help but reflect on the day. It had been special in so many ways. Of course, it was his birthday, but there was something more. Meeting Shun, spending time with him, and dropping him off—it all felt significant, like the beginning of something new and exciting.
Dai smiled to himself, feeling a warm sense of happiness and anticipation for what the future might hold. Today was indeed a special day, and he couldn't wait to see what came next.
