It had been almost two years since Dai and Shun started dating, and their bond had grown into something deeper, more profound than either had ever imagined. Over these two years, they shared everything — laughter, struggles, and countless small moments that made their love grow stronger. There were lazy Sunday mornings when they would simply lay in each other’s arms, talking about nothing and everything, and nights spent supporting each other’s dreams. Shun’s music was flourishing, and Dai was still the golden retriever of energy, always pushing forward with a smile. They had faced challenges, but they faced them together, with love and understanding, and that’s what made it special.
It was now the morning of Shun’s graduation day, and the sun filtered softly through the curtains of their shared apartment. Shun woke up, still nestled in Dai’s arms, the warmth of his body comforting. Dai shifted slightly, wrapping his arms tighter around Shun’s waist, pulling him closer. With a soft kiss on Shun’s forehead, he whispered, “I can’t believe my baby’s gonna graduate today.”
Shun smiled sleepily, a blush creeping on his cheeks. “I am,” he said, his voice soft.
Dai sulked playfully, “And I still have one more year…” His voice trailed off in mock sadness.
Shun, still feeling groggy but filled with warmth, leaned over and kissed Dai’s cheek lightly. “It’ll be over before you know it,” he reassured, as he slowly got out of bed to freshen up.
Dai lazily rolled over, watching Shun get up, his body still relaxed from sleep. “You’re gonna look so good today,” Dai said with a grin, teasing but also proud.
“Help me, will you?” Shun smiled, pulling out his graduation clothes.
Dai sprang up immediately. “Of course, anything for my baby on his big day!”
Dai helped Shun button up his shirt, and with every button, he sneaked a kiss. One on Shun’s collarbone as he buttoned the top one, then one on his jawline, and finally, after fixing his tie, a soft, lingering kiss on Shun’s lips. “Perfect,” Dai whispered against his lips.
Shun chuckled, shaking his head lightly. “You always sneak kisses, don’t you?”
“Can’t help it,” Dai grinned, stepping back to admire Shun in his graduation attire. “You look incredible.”
They soon left for the university, where the campus was buzzing with excitement. The graduation ceremony had brought a sense of accomplishment and celebration to the air. Shun was busy talking to his friends when suddenly, a pair of familiar arms wrapped around him from behind. He turned to find Dai, holding a bouquet of flowers with a big smile on his face.
“Congratulations on your graduation, my love,” Dai said, handing him the bouquet before enveloping him in a warm hug.
Shun hugged him back, his heart swelling with happiness. “Thank you, Dai,” he whispered against his ear.
Soon after, Dai’s phone rang, and he excused himself to take the call. Shun looked around, watching as his classmates and friends took photos with their families. A sense of sadness crept in; though he had been adopted into Dai’s family with open arms, he still sometimes missed the family he never really had growing up.
Just as he was lost in thought, a voice broke through his reverie. “What are you looking at?” Dai asked, stepping beside him with a smile.
Shun shook his head, not wanting to dampen the mood. “Nothing,” he replied, but his smile faltered slightly.
Before he could say more, Shun saw Keiko, Haruto, Ryuji, and Yumi approaching. Keiko opened her arms as she approached, “Sorry, dear, we were late,” she said warmly.
