Three days had passed, and Shun was finally from the hospital. Dai felt an enormous weight lift from his shoulders as he held Shun’s hand, guiding him gently out of the building and toward home. The familiar streets welcomed them back, and as they stepped inside their cozy apartment, Shun inhaled deeply, a serene smile spreading across his face.
“It’s good to be home,” he murmured, glancing around their small but beloved space. The air felt warmer here, the quiet hum of their little sanctuary wrapping around them like a long-lost friend.
Dai chuckled softly, setting down Shun’s bag and immediately started tidying up, even though the house was already spotless. “Don’t even think about lifting a finger,” he said, glancing back at Shun with a playful but firm gaze. “You’re still recovering, so let me handle everything.”
“But Dai, I’m feeling so much better—” Shun started, only to be silenced by Dai’s raised eyebrow.
“Feeling better doesn’t mean fully healed,” Dai replied, shooing him toward the couch. “Sit. Relax. I’ll take care of you.” With a soft smile, he turned to the kitchen, where he began preparing Shun’s favorite dishes.
Days passed, and Dai took on everything, from cooking and cleaning to handling his university assignments. He poured all his energy into taking care of Shun, making sure every meal was cooked just right, that the blankets were always cozy, and that Shun had everything he needed to heal. But with each passing day, Dai’s face grew a bit paler, his shoulders a bit heavier. Despite his own weariness, he smiled through it all, determined to give Shun the rest he deserved.
One day during class, Dai couldn’t fight it any longer. His eyes fluttered closed, his head slowly sinking onto his arm. He didn’t realize he’d fallen asleep until a familiar voice whispered nearby.
“Dai,” Kenji’s voice broke through the haze. “Hey, man, what’s going on? You look exhausted.”
Dai blinked awake, his vision adjusting to see Kenji’s concerned face. He straightened, offering a weak smile. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just a bit of a headache, that’s all.”
Kenji eyed him skeptically. “Don’t lie to me. You’ve been overworking yourself these past few days. Didn’t Shun get better?”
Dai nodded, running a hand through his hair. “Yeah, he did. I’ll be fine. Just need a little more rest.”
Kenji smirked, giving him a knowing look. “You sure are a devoted husband.”
Dai’s cheeks flushed, but he gave Kenji a playful nudge. “Focus on class, will you?”
Later that evening, Dai headed to the grocery store. His phone rang, and he smiled, seeing Shun’s name on the screen. “Hey, baby,” he greeted softly, his voice filled with warmth. “I’m at the store. Do you need anything?”
Shun’s voice came through, soft and a bit shy. “No, I don’t need anything… but, um, maybe… you could bring 'them'?”
Dai’s lips quirked up, immediately understanding but feeling playful. “Bring what, exactly?”
Shun hesitated, his tone turning a bit husky, “You know… 'them'.”
Dai chuckled, enjoying the teasing. “I’m afraid I don’t follow. You’ll have to be specific, baby.”
A frustrated sigh echoed through the line, followed by a faint laugh. “Forget it!” Shun said, hanging up abruptly, though Dai could practically feel his blush from miles away.
Dai laughed, shaking his head, and after finishing his shopping, made sure to grab exactly what Shun wanted. He arrived home with a small smile, though exhaustion tugged at his features. His headache had worsened, but he pushed it aside as he opened the door, expecting to see Shun waiting.
