The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the sleeping faces of Dai and Shun. The warmth of the light slowly stirred Dai from his slumber. As his eyes fluttered open, he realized with a jolt that they had overslept. Panic set in immediately—today was the day they were supposed to leave for their vacation, and by the looks of it, everyone else was probably already awake and ready to go.
Dai turned to Shun, who was still sleeping peacefully beside him, his face relaxed and serene. Dai couldn’t help but smile at how adorable Shun looked when he was asleep. But there was no time to waste. He gently shook Shun’s shoulder, trying to wake him.
"Shun, wake up," Dai urged, his voice laced with urgency.
Shun stirred slightly, mumbling something incoherent before cracking one eye open. "Good morning, baby," he muttered, his voice thick with sleep. He leaned in and placed a light, sleepy kiss on Dai’s cheek, then promptly turned over and drifted back to sleep.
Dai was momentarily taken aback, his heart skipping a beat at the simple, affectionate gesture. It was one of those moments that made him fall in love with Shun all over again. But the situation called for urgency, not sentimentality.
"Shun, come on! We’re going to be late!" Dai said, shaking him a little more vigorously.
Shun finally opened his eyes fully, blinking against the light. "What’s wrong?" he asked, his voice still groggy.
Dai looked at him in disbelief. "We’re going to be late! I think everyone’s already ready!"
Shun, still half-asleep, frowned in confusion. "Ready for what?"
Dai groaned, exasperated but amused. "Seriously? We’re supposed to be going on vacation today!"
It was like a switch flipped in Shun’s brain. He bolted upright, his eyes wide with realization. "Oh no! I totally forgot!" He slapped his forehead lightly, as if chastising himself. "I must have slept really hard."
Dai couldn’t help but laugh at how flustered Shun looked, but there was no time to tease him about it. They had to get ready, and fast.
The next few minutes were a chaotic whirlwind. Shun dashed around the room, trying to find his clothes, while Dai frantically packed the last of their things. Shun managed to put his shirt on inside out and had to struggle to fix it while Dai nearly tripped over a stray shoe in his haste to get his suitcase closed. They bumped into each other several times, exchanging hurried apologies and sharing a few laughs at how disorganized they were.
When they finally emerged from their room, looking slightly disheveled but presentable, they found everyone else already waiting in the living room, luggage neatly arranged and ready to go. Shun, ever the quick thinker, decided to save face.
"Sorry, guys," Shun said with a sly grin, "Dai overslept."
Dai’s eyes widened in surprise. He knew for a fact that it was Shun who had been the one oversleeping, but before he could say anything, Shun winked at him, and he couldn’t help but smile. "Yeah, sorry, everyone," Dai added, shaking his head in mock exasperation.
Yumi waved it off with a smile. "It’s fine. We’re just waiting for Ayumi’s parents to join us. They should be here any minute."
As if on cue, the doorbell rang. Haruto opened the door to reveal Ayumi’s parents, Mr. Takashi and Mrs. Mika Watanabe. They were an elegant couple, radiating warmth and kindness.
"Ah, Takashi, Mika, welcome!" Haruto greeted them with a smile, shaking Mr. Watanabe’s hand. "We’ve been looking forward to this trip."
Keiko stepped forward, giving Mrs. Watanabe a hug. "Mika, it’s so good to see you again. I’m glad we’re all going on this vacation together."
