Chapter 49: Can't Be Doin This Sh!t

No one's Pov:

A month after Shawn's basic training he was stationed on the coast counting down the days until he'd see his family again.

His last few days before departure consisted of assuring his Nana that he was going to do everything in his power to make it back home, eating up her food, hanging with Deon and Anthony, getting picked on by Monica, being shouted at by Coiya through the phone after he called her a hairy lipped Mr. Clean, and Megan trying her hardest to make things more natural between them.

And it was working.

The two of them managed to talk without it being hard for people to watch. It was mutually agreed that what happened was in the past and they could move on and be friends anyway. Shawn has strictly dedicated himself to his fiancee and heads back home at the appropriate time. He's made that clear to his loved one.

Everyone has come to terms with that, and has given him the respect he's asked for. Rebecca is his soon to be wife and he will treat her as so. Boundaries with his female friend were put upfront, respectfully.

Now Megan and Shawn's feelings never changed. Their eyes still met like magnets no matter the distance, the slightest brush of their skin still sparked something within them, and the tug in their chest never withered. They just had to ignore it and keep it moving.

A year had passed marking one year that Shawn had been deployed, and considering his college friends juniors (3rd years) this year in college.

Monica had her dream wedding and got the honeymoon she's always hoped for. A queen deserves to have her every command made, and Jonah did just that for her. Megan as her maid of honor, and family and friends there made it all the more special. It was really beautiful.

Coiya and Deon broke things off for good, as the tuggle war was getting too much that the rope just broke, Deon stayed in Texas to go to trade school. He completed his associates and graduated from community college then applying to become a engineer mechanic. He's also been a part-time babysitter as Michelle finishes her last year of high school. Definitely loves being an uncle though he's a cousin.

Yeah, this is a recap, so we can speed shit up a bit.

But everyone is cool, calm and collected. Well almost everyone...

Anthony's has been in jail for car theft. His love life costed him his freedom when he thought taking Daddy's car for a ride was just out the kindness of the man's heart. Don't worry, he's set to be released in about a couple of months.

But as you can tell, everyone's getting older, busier, growing and it was showing as they were getting more distant. It was driving Megan insane as she felt like everyone was starting to kind of get out of reach.

Megan had been through some tough changes, experiences and adjustments, but has been getting by nicely as days went on and time kept moving. Returning to school after being leaving the base was like a sickly fever dream that wakes you up drenched in sweat. A difficult decision had to be made that shifted everything in her life and every new opportunity. But it's led to some great new memories.

She has met someone new on campus and had even given them a chance to sweep her off her feet. Slowly but surely, she was moving on from Shawn. If he could move on and be happy, so could she without any doubts. Joshua couldn't be more proud of her.

She was happy, learning and doing well in her classes. Absolutely excelling in them. Nobody was stopping her and had her best friends by her side whether it was in person or in spirit pushing her to keep going. And we can't forget that Nana is too.

Shawn's Pov:
( 1 year later)

"Gone for two years and came back lookin like a hobo, trust me, you need this cut." My friend sat idly by watching me through the mirror of the barber shop.
