Serah POV

Until my steps stopped abruptly.

Today, half of my dreams came true.

And this one I wasn’t ready to believe.

The man was on his legs, he lost so much weight but he looked healthy.

And his eyes were open.

If there was one reason I moved away from the pack, it was him.

The man who made me break my promises.

Somehow, my heart was choking under the thorns of our unresolved issues. His face brightened with a pearly smile making his brown iris disappear.

My body remembered how it acted around him, careless and genuinely happy.

He was a world I belonged to.

My instinct froze my body, my sincerity ached to be in his arms.

My vision blurred and his body engulfed me into a fervent embrace.

For the first time again, I was experiencing him with my new gained ability. I heard his rapid heart beat, his alluring smell, charcoal and dried roses.

If it was the me before him, I would give my all, my soul but his touch wasn’t giving me shivers.

The coursing electricity I thought I felt with him, was nowhere to be found.

I pushed him away, as my whole existence was fighting against the need to flee.

His long lashes were fully turned upwards and his eyes got bigger.

“Sorry, last time we saw each other, you told me not to appear in front of your face.”

His gaze was now honoring the luscious tiles.

The hurt portrayed by these features that once made me fall in love, were instantly transferred to me.

I took careful steps towards him and slid my hands in his. Our fingers knew how to intertwine and I took all the courage I had left to dive into his eyes.

They were full of love.

It would have been the cue for me to kiss him.

So I did.

My lips softly brushed against his cheeks. His muscles tensed but let go to bring me back into a hug.

“Are you still mad?”

That kid was brazen to ask of me an obvious answer.

“I am still.”

I pouted trying to conceal the blur appearing over my vision. As I didn’t want to get his shirt wet with my sorrow.

But it wouldn’t be necessary because mom came to me and separated me from the man.

“Dear, he needs his check up done, now that your uncle is back.”

My eyes darted between mom and Kevin, until Eos came to take the man by the arm.

I didn’t even realise.

His face crisped gently under his smiling mask and moved his body with an ease that I’d bet was hiding an enormous amount of discomfort.

His steps started to fade behind until the gigantic doors collided into one.

The echoes reverberated inside the cold space.

My shadow was now only existing on one side as the throne room was the only light source now, but it was soon to disappear as mom came to shield me from the bright room.
